ComScore Networks published a list of top blogs in Q1 2005 by unique audience. FreeRepublic, DrudgeReport, FleshBot, Gawker and Fark all got more than 1 mln unique visitors in Q1 2005.

2. That might have a lot to do with freeper demographics.

If you're unemployed and living in your parents' basement, you have a lot of time to spend on wingnut blogs (and porn). I'm under the impression that most DUers actually have jobs and go out and do stuff once in awhile -- which could account for these numbers.

a freep scam being pulled here. There's no way they get that much traffic. No way in hell. I wonder how many freep "unique users" have 20 or so "unique" identities on FR?

Who gives a shit anyway? It's CONTENT, not numbers that makes the blog. We're all "uniquely" aware of the garbage on FR.

17. Not a chance in hell do they get more hits than Slashdot or Fark...

Slashdot and Fark regularly crash servers that they link to because of the load. So much so, in fact, it's become a slang term.... "My server got Slashdotted" or "My server got Farked" ( yes, I know, that is the upshot of that sort of traffic).

I guarantee that they are probably going through, deleting the cookie set by the vote ( or something along those lines ), then hitting it again. Netcraft siterankings have it at 854. Slashdot is at 35, and Fark is ranked at 450. They are doing something to tweak the poll. I've seen posts which have given specific instructions on how to tweak the polls just like that... or if one of them were specifically writing scripts to hit the site, I could believe that as well.

4. There could be many reasons....

Maybe they excluded this place because it made every other site on that list look downright pathetic. Or maybe this site isn't even considered a blog. I never knew Drudgereport was a blog.....thought it was more like a news site. Just the fact that DU in nowhere on the list brings a red flag in my mind.

I sometimes peek over there (you know, knowing what the enemy thinks), but they don't like to hear any other opinion other than their own. I'm sure some of the freeper traffic isn't freeper.

15. Wasn't there another poll

a few weeks ago that showed exactly the opposite results? That DU was wiping the floor with Freeperland? Does anybody remember that? It showed DU with twice as many hits or something?:shrug:

16. I was on DU

and got the link to freerepublic.com regarding how they are pissed at FOX News coverage of repugs in Texas. While browsing freerepublic.com I saw a link to DU that showed the above chart. They think it is great when we mention them and complain how their level of popularity is so much better that DU's. I am not sure we should even mention them at all, much less let them know how we think their popularity bothers us. Just a thought.
