Here are my reasons that troops are dying in Iraq.
1. Conservatives and Neo-Cons have wanted an invasion for years. The attacks on 9/11 gave them the excuse. This invasion was not because of 9-11.
2. This administration was going to have the reasons to invade no matter what. See the Downing Street Minutes and planted intelligence such as the uranium yellow cake. An reliance on intelligence from Iraqi exile groups who had very poor sources in Iraq if these sources were not outright lying. If that failed heavy air attacks were used to try and provoke an Iraqi response
3. Inept planning and execution of the war and its aftermath due use of political ideologues as opposed to experts. Anyone who did not agree with the Bush plan was moved out of the way. This include the following:
a. A lack of understanding of Iraqi sectarian and ethic conflicts.
b. A lack of preparation for the total collapse of the entire government at the national and local levels. This allowed for a looting of the total infrastructure to include massive amounts of munitions. this also allowed for any foreign extremest group easy entry into Iraq
c. Underestimating the ability of the insurgency to become more powerful and with more .sophisticated tactics in a short amount of time.
4. The use of the CPA, with its politically vetted conservatives, who served short (3 to 6 month)tours, with no financial accountability allowing millions if not billions of dollars to be lost with no benefit to the Iraqis.
5. Lack of protective gear supplied to the troops among other logistical problems.
6. The total lack of security requiring the use of tens of thousands of "security contractors" who are a law unto themselves.
7. The arbitrary imprisonment of civilians for months with no charges filed and subjected to humiliation, degradation and outright torture.
8. The pronouncements from the Green Zone that things are improving when the average Iraqi still lacks clean water and electricity.
9. The pushing of an Iraqi constitution by the Bush administration that is more for Bush political expediency as opposed to actual Iraqi freedom and equality.
In one simple thought the reason for troop deaths in Iraq is an ill advised invasion followed by extreme incompetence by President Bush and his administration. It is not due to some protesters living in a drainage ditch, fighting off the heat and fire ants, in central Texas.
