Thanks to everyone else for their great reports and pix. Just thought I'd add a few of my own impressions, to confirm or augment.
I arrived at Camp Casey 1 at 10:30 am. There was a group of pro-war protesters across from Camp Casey 1. I counted approximately 80 pro-war bodies at that site. There were also a few up the road--for maybe a total of 100 pro-war'ers outside of Crawford proper.
I'd say there were more pro-peace protesters at Camp Casey 1--maybe as much as twice the number of pro-war'ers.
I proceeded to Camp Casey 2, and saw no pro-war protesters there or anywhere else today, except IN "downtown" Crawford, where they've set up "Fort Qualls."
I really couldn't guess how many pro-war'ers were at Fort Qualls or in town generally--by afternoon the town was extremely congested with people from both sides of the fence coming in and out. Also, I didn't get a close look at Fort Qualls.
However, I don't see how the number of pro-war'ers could possibly have equalled the number of pro-peace'ers--at Camp Casey 2 alone, I heard one estimate of 1200 at Camp Casey 2, and I'd have believed that or more. It seems to me that if they'd had enough pro-war'ers to fill a tent the size of the one at Camp Casey 2, they would have done that, and also it didn't appear to me that a number that large would have fit into the existing Fort Qualls.
As I was driving home I heard a report on KRLD radio that the protests had been peaceful except that the police had had to break up some pro-war'ers who got into a fight among themselves.
One thing I heard more than one person mention--that they'd expected to be able to recruit more friends to come along, but their friends had something more important to do, or they were afraid they'd be rounded up, or whatever.
It was extremely hot out there today, but the protest organizers have done everything possible to help everyone stay healthy and comfortable. Just take their advice about drinking lots of water, etc., and you'll have a very enjoyable time.
