In Praise of Frank Rich
Frank Rich shows the difference between a professional writer, i.e., a guy who makes a living thinking about things and writing about them, and an annoying hack like Tom Friedman. Friedman has won Pulitzers, but he's labored and clumsy. Frank Rich makes it seem easy.

Here's a quote from today's column:

It isn't just Mr. Bush who is in a tight corner now. Ms. Sheehan's protest was the catalyst for a new national argument about the war that managed to expose both the intellectual bankruptcy of its remaining supporters on the right and the utter bankruptcy of the Democrats who had rubber-stamped this misadventure in the first place.

When the war's die-hard cheerleaders attacked the Middle East policy of a mother from Vacaville, Calif., instead of defending the president's policy in Iraq, it was definitive proof that there is little cogent defense left to be made. When the Democrats offered no alternative to either Mr. Bush's policy or Ms. Sheehan's plea for an immediate withdrawal, it was proof that they have no standing in the debate ...

1. So....what do you really mean?
That the Dems have offered no alternative policy or plan of action?

Uh, yeah, I guess that's right.

I'm so tired of being an apologetic liberal or even a Demorat. When are they going to give us something to chew on?

4. Kerry's Iraq Policy
Rather than support a withdrawal from an illegal, immoral, unnecessary and counterproductive war, Kerry said he'd send even more troops to Iraq.

6. I've never understood where these "more" troops would come from.

5. Rich's last several columns have been the best stuff going.
I'm flabergasted each time I read him. He's the only one making sense. Well, consistently. Dowd has been good too but each time I read her I hold my breath. She was so awful during Clinton I expect her to lapse back.
