Galloway to go on anti-war tour of US with Jane Fonda
http://www.radionewsamerica.com/index.php?blog=2&p=7923&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1#more7923

Published: 27 August 2005

George Galloway, the anti-war MP for Bethnal Green and Bow who rocked the US Senate earlier this year, is to be accompanied on a speaking tour of America by the actress and activist Jane Fonda.

Few things are more likely to antagonise US conservatives than the combination of Mr Galloway and Ms Fonda - still hated by the right because of her outspoken opposition to the war in Vietnam - joining to condemn the American presence in Iraq. But Mr Galloway can expect a thunderous reception from those he impressed with his performance before a Senate committee last May.

2. Jane Fonda should stay out of this - she is a lighting rod.
Her actions prolonged the Vietnam War. Her method of protest was lamented by many anti Vietnam War activist of the time.

3. Not this Vietnam Veteran - Maybe she is a lightening rod so what?

We keep getting this stuff about be nice, you shouldn't criticize the president too harshly, don't antagonize.

Bull Shit! We heard this throughout the Gore campaign.

Kerry would not hit back.

What did this get either of them.

How in the hell can a Vietnam Veteran who did some courageous acts lose a battle against a draft dodging AWOL hiding from the war?

The hell with it, she has every right to be out on the trail if this is what she believed.

She probably saved lives from Vietnam by helping to bring into focus what that war was about.

It is time for standing up to these people instead of cowering down to them.

4. Well said and right on.
I missed Vietnam by a few months when they asked me to extend my enlistment and I rather vociforously refused to go to Vietnam to kill people.

Hoorah for Jane Fonda.

5. Thanks Tierra, I have always stood up for her. This crap about
aiding and abetting the enemy is bullshit. When we were over there and you remember, there were no bigger demonstrations than back then.

You know what, it was not a demoralizing factor for most. Maybe some, I don't know. But all of us growing up in America, we understood this is how our country works. You have the right to protest, criticize government, ask questions, debate the issues. It does bring some questions out and you say to yourselves, "maybe they have a point" but you go on with your life.

The contradiction between right-wingers amazes me. They talk about God, Liberty, Freedom, love, the rights we all have here in america, but all that goes out the window the minute you disagree with them. I guess they think it is only for them.

6. I lost two friends in Vietnam. Both were against the war.
The protests hadn't even really started in '65 but there was already some of us in the marines who questioned the war. They couldn't get out because one had shipped over for flight school (he didn't get it) and the other was forced to extend his enlistment like a lot of others who were getting out a few months after I did when they made extensions non-voluntary.

They now decorate the wall.

7. I agree with everything you said in your post. Except she saved
lives, not according to serious anti Vietnam war activist of the era and Vets opposed to the war. Look at the time period when Fonda made her protest and the actual end of the war. Her actions helped prolong the war as did flag burners. I am not saying be a pink tutu at all-trying to be too nice bothers me too. I am saying be effective and smart in protest. Because if you are not effective - you have done nothing to help. You are talking to a poster who has a bumper sticker that reads "Support the Troops Impeach Bush and his incompentent adminstration now" on the back of a truck driving around in a very red community in a very red state. Ask the poster pinko buttons about some of the stickers I have ordered from her. I have had my house and truck egged and key scatched.

14. I understand where you are coming from Podem & support your
points of view. I am just saying I & other Nam veterans do not think Jane Fonda herself even had the ability to prolong a war. The only prolonging of that war came from the Nixon Admin & the Military Industrial Complex & those in government supporting it.

I do not think I or others can prove she may have saved lives but am using the theory, the sooner the war was over, the more lives were saved from it. Same theory for Iraq, the sooner we are out of there, the more lives that can be saved. Only those prolonging the war are costing more lives.

I think you and I are basically on the same page. Thanks.

10. I already have a spine. I have had my house egged and truck
key scatched because of anti Bush stickers. I live in a very red state in the redest community of the state and have the spine to make my views on Bush clear for all to see. You need to "get a" brain or find out more before you jerk your knee. Bullshit is a word for people who have no sensible reply.

a spokesperson for current anti-war views. Ending this war is important to me, so I think we should look carefully at anyone in this media age who has the opportunity to bring in big media. Especially given that the anti war view has limited media exposure. Even Fonda has said her past protest in North Vietnam were a mistake. Where did I say I hated Jane Fonda? You can't find it can you, because I don't hate Jane Fonda. You must throw me in with the "Hanoi Jane" people because you can not find a suitable reply to defend your view. In other words you must paint a false picture of my views. To put it bluntly lie to others on this board about my views.
"(W)hatever" haha retrolounge..indeed. "Hey man..."If you are a teenager- that word is "like so totally dated." "Whatever" really means you don't know how to defend your views. You are the one who started throwing out insults about growing body parts.

13. Ask those that wanted to see the Veitnam War end . The serious
anti war movement if they thought her protest was helpful. No we are saying do what is good for our side, not the right, stay away Jane, help out on the sidelines. She is doing what the right wants her to do.

no many thought protesting in North Vietnam was a terrible mistake, Fonda even now says so herself.

She is doing what is right, and to hell with the jellyfish moderates and the rightwing. Do you think she wasn't "serious" when she risked her life and her career in Vietnam?

26. Good. Time to get this pot brewin'.
Jane is a symbol of the last struggle against a deceptive and exploitative government. Galloway humiliated congress members who thought they could just lash out and persecute anyone who wasn't on board with their agenda.

They are both controversial and "lightning rods". I say, time for as many strikes of lightning as possible to create the necessary climax. I don't want to wait another 3 - 5 years, after huge losses and a country fallen into deeper decline. I want this strike against a deceptive, exploitative, corrupt and criminal governance to escalate much more swiftly than before.

After all, we are dealing with a regime that's a hundred times worse than the Nixon administration. The sooner we confront such governance, the better chance we have of preventing greater damage to our troops, our people, our country.

GOOOO JANE!!!! GOOOO GALLOWAY!!!!
