why do DUers love Joe Biden so much?
3 weeks ago, Dennis Kucinich made a rare appearance on a Sunday talk show, and he was nearly totally ignored:

And Joe Biden took a rare break from the Sunday talk shows, yet that day he still merited a thread, which received 4 times as many posts as the two Dennis threads combined

"let's see which way the wind blows" as there is.

He is totally in the pocket of the credit card/banking corporations.

He would never get my vote.

EDIT: Didn't he also say he would be open to running with John McCain? :puke:

Not I!

He's too much of a compromiser at a time when compromise is not benign.

7. I think you missed a Kucinich thread, Cocoa.
I remember one that started the day before the show as a reminder and continued during the show. It was fairly long.

30. I probably missed more than one thread
and I only searched General Discussion.

But the point remains, people like to complain about people like Biden, but then they ignore people like Kucinich.

And Feingold, who made a very important appearance last week that was again mostly ignored.

But a least the man has some guts, which is more than I can say for most of my leaders in the Democratic party....We need people like Dean and others who "tell it like it is (hate that phrase)... I'm so sick of the mealy mouths who can't seem to do a damn thing to save this country but have all the answers...sorry friends , the nightmare is getting too real and I,m getting fed up.

I'm watching Biden more closely than Kucinich because there is a real possibility Biden could be the democratic nominee for prez in 2008.

12. Being New to the political arena
as I am. I heard Biden speak shortly have the election. I was impressed with him. He holds himself well, puts forth his arguments well. But when you investigate Biden's record. He ain't so pretty anymore.

Can I point out 15 negative response to Biden!!! That's how much people feel betrayed by him.

Dennis, doesn't quite have the same charisma as Biden. He comes off as being off his rocker when he becomes passionate about something, it's one of his endearing qualities. However, I'd trade a 1,000 Biden's for one Dennis.

Can I point out 4 positive responses is far better then 15 negative

Edited on Sun Aug-28-05 09:36 AM by mcscajun
...there are a lot of threads on him, mostly to bash his ass.

This was a big 'indoor sport' during the run-up to the passage of the change in the Bankruptcy Laws, in particular.

Another was when he made a public indication of his interest in the Presidency. There was a "whole lotta pukin' goin' on" that week.

Biden? :puke:

19. Nah
I'm not really a huge fan like I am with other politicians like Kerry, Kennedy, Boxer, Dean etc. Biden can be okay but sometimes he's annoying. Plus, isn't he a PNACer? If it wasn't for that he would be a *little* better I think. That's why I have trust issues with him. And yes, on the "Daily Show" when he was on not long ago (either earlier this month or last month) he said he would like to run with McCain and that he was the one who encouraged Kerry to have McCain as his VP originally (so he claims anyways). He seems like a nice enough person but it's just the politics. He's not ugly or anything like that but he's not John Kerry dreamy. Only reason why I'd vote for Biden is if he won the primary and depending on who the republicans put up to if my vote would be needed.

21. Well, I don't think "love" is the right word.
Biden gets attention because he's polarizing. Some days, he does things that merit positive attention; others, he pisses everybody off.

Negative threads will often get much more attention, simply because a lot of DUers like to get worked up. ;)

32. negative threads get more attention
but then people bitch about the dems not having any message, or any new ideas.

But when the dems do put forth something fresh, it gets ignored. Feingold said something significant last Sunday, something that has more potential to save troops' and Iraqis lives than anything else recently, but it got totally ignored. People just went on bitching about the dems and pretending Feingold doesn't exist.

33. I wholeheartedly agree.
People would much rather continue the "oh, all the Dems are spineless" meme than give any of them credit for anything, and it seems to be getting worse.

It's become rather obvious that we all do not share the same agenda.

with the media focus. I wish the media were less shallow--but that was the origian thread question , why Ted gets the coverage and Dennis doesn't. Not for any intrinsic reasons, for sure!

23. firstly joe biden is both taken more seriously, (for different reasons)
higher on the hierchy of power.

so to compare the two, well i would htink there are obvious differences.

second i dont love biden. i do respect biden though, which is more than a lot on this board. i dont see him perfectly nor do i expect it. there are things he says and does that is right on. i will take it. i will run with it, when he is right on. and i will disagree with him and fight him when he isnt.

that is called working with people., not going to find a clone of ourselves, i personally wouldnt want it. i dont want to live the way another ay see for me. i dont want you to live my way, i assure you

Maybe it has to do with our base instincts or automatic biases that come from god knows how long ago or where. He seems almost more a candidate for being a spiritual leader than a political leader. It seems we like more intensity, drive and ego in our Presidents.

Maybe I am paranoid, but I think there are a lot of unconscious forces operating in America, like puritanism, dislike of sexuality, and even that we shouldn't enjoy ourselves. We are supposed to be like worker ant minions. Maybe the flood of people from the south will bring more heart to this country???
