With the repugs and those in power so sure that the military cannot have open homosexuality in the ranks, maybe it's a good thing?

The Army will develop a 'don't bother to tell, I'm not going to listen' policy. Randy Shultz' book 'Conduct Unbecoming' tells of GIs, that all knew were gay, serving as long as the Viet Nam War went on. When it was over, the Army suddenly discovered it didn't allow gays.

They'll just make little "Sacred Band of Thebes" units and use them as shock troops in the worst combat zones possible as punishment, i.e. effective death penalties for such.

I've heard there are plots afoot to draft women as well as men. I suspect this is in no small part due to the size of the armies they anticipate taking on (BRIC, SCO, and observers). A Hitler attacking Russia in winter -type affair is not something I'd put beyond them at all.

Iraq, as bad as it is, will be nothing compared to such a fiasco. Iraq is a shooting gallery with our troops as targets now. The upcoming fiascoes will be more like sending even more badly underequipped masses of Americans into a fully industrialized abattoir.

It is not inconceivable that hundreds of millions of Americans would choose to be brutalized in prison instead of slaughtered in such conditions. It is also rather likely that those who attempt to make such a choice will be forcibly compelled to go to the front lines instead of imprisoned as they would prefer.

The lack of choices leaves rather few methods of resisting. Clearly, cooperation is being coerced.
