About those rising gas prices...
In an interview later with CNN, the mayor also referred to the potential impact the hurricane could have on the oil supply from the vulnerable area.

"The real issue - that I don't think the nation is paying attention to - is that through the city of New Orleans, through the Gulf of Mexico, we probably deal with almost a third of the nation's domestic oil that is produced. And that will most likely be shut down," Mr. Nagin said.

"So, this can have a significant impact on oil prices going forward," he added.

1. there was a movie on FX about just this thing
and prices did not just go up, the availability of gas became null, we had to do without for a while, and our economy went to shit. It was a scary movie and it started with a strong hurricane from the gulf that tore up the refineries and oil rigs...

3. That's what I have been trying to tell my family all day
They won't have to worry about the PRICE of gas, they'll have to worry about not being able to GET ANY GAS - at any price.

2. Yep. In fact, a couple of months ago there was this cheesy
tv movie called "Oil Storm" that started off with a hurricane that devastated New Orleans, setting off an energy crisis in the United States. I really couldn't watch much of it because the format of the movie was very much like watching Faux News.

Gas coming in and grain going out. The economy didn't exactly need this sort of a "boost" right now.

5. As if this situation weren't frightening enough
for all those stuck in and around NO. Sounds like this potential tragedy could inflict at least some of it's devastation on working poor families around the nation. Good thing we have leaders that care about poor people and will, no doubt, take steps to help them through a crisis. (sarcasm)

6. Most likely overreacting, but
Here in Atlanta I went out this afternoon and not only topped the tank of but filled up 3 gas cans so we have an extra 8 gallons of gas on hand just in case. Better to be safe I guess...

8. Nice sentiment but in Darwin socialist America the
poor and those unable to drive are being left behind. Too sad.

10. I also just found out that 9 oil refineries are in the path
If a few of those are taken out, well, I just can't stand to think about it now with everything else bad. I'm feeling sick to my stomach.
