1. So are people bringing
their own food? It could get pretty testy in the Superdome.

4. They instructed people to bring own food & water
And the lines are five hours long in 99 degree heat index. That food will be mighty tasty by Tuesday.

10. Engineering study on hurricane survivability/threshold of Superdome not
completed. Study not finished. If the levies break all those poor people could be dead, and if you've seen them on T.V. that's exactly who you have there - the poor. The rich climbed into their god damned SUV's and drove out or hopped a flight to anywhere at all long ago.

I think the acid in my stomach is boring a hole all the way down to my feet.

31. Really! Cause a ice crest wouldn't
cut it by Tuesday. I went through a cat 5 hurricane on Kauai on 9/11/92 and it was Devastating(5 years to rebuild)..so far away to ship supplies in. Although, Steven Spielberg had been filming Jurassic Park there so he sent over a plane load of supplies. Thank you, Steven!

I cheered when I saw the National Guard cleaning paths in road.

Food and water was at a premium..oh yeah, and BEER! :P

6. Apparently there is no food at any of the NO shelters!!!!!
I have never heard of this in my entire life and I have even worked on a few disasters. Usually three meals a day are provided at shelters. It's just unbelievable that they are making people carry their own food in. I checked and it seems that people in shelters in Florida from Katrina ARE getting food.

The way this disaster is being (mis)handled is really, really upsetting me.

8. The Red Cross...
...and Nat'l Guard are still passing out free water, ice, and hot meals here in So. Florida. I can't see why the people of New Orleans are expected to provide their own.

19. A hurricane expert on NPR this evening said that the Red Cross
Edited on Sun Aug-28-05 06:10 PM by enough
is NOT setting up any shelters in NO because there is no place in NO that is safe for a shelter. They do not want to put volunteers in harms way.

No link, heard on ATC this evening.

13. I may be wrong but I think I read in another post today
that pre-disaster care such as shelter and food that was set up in the Clinton administration was eliminated in this current administration. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

20. There will be no water to drink or flush or electric lights or a/c.
There will likely be 20 feet of water in the stadium, which is why they're only filling the upper tiers, but that water isn't going to go down for a long time. I keep thinking about how those people will be trapped in there with no way out because the doors (I asssume) are all at ground level.

WTF are they doing?

14. They may not be able to return to their homes for weeks or months.
They may have no homes to return to.

What will they do with all these people for the days and weeks after the storm?

I guess getting through the storm is the only thing to worry about now.

Edited on Sun Aug-28-05 06:27 PM by GloriaSmith
apparently many people thought food would be provided. They're leaving in search of food. Hopefully they'll get back before the strong winds begin tonight.

on edit: how hard would it be to provide MRE's for these people??

25. There is a curfew in effect. They shouldn't be on the streets now.
They said it was bring-your-own-food.

I'm sure folks didn't get the word, though.

Damn.
