8. I think that is the total energy expended
over the entire time, unlike the energy from an atom bomb which is expended instantaneously. I could be wrong. Still a lot of energy tho.

The area this is all happening in is vastly larger than an atomic bomb's blast radius, even the largest of them. The estimate is probably a mixture of kinetic energy from macroscopic motion and temperature.

...and we live in NY! I really think that this is going to get bad for the whole country. But my heart goes out to New Orleans :cry:
