4. It can handle 200mph sustained winds so I'm ASSuming...
it can handle gusts a bit higher.

3. Oh, I'm glad
I'm hope everyone has found a place of safety. I've been checking at weather.com and it looked like there was already rain and winds there. They predict 20-25 feet surges.

6. Is everybody in, or did they turn people away?
No line is not necessarily a good thing.

7. Their's still a line. They've moved them under an
awning and are checking people in on the floor so it's going faster.

10. Let's hope it doesn't become an expensive tomb, eh?
I don't think I would have picked the Superdome.

13. I worry about the aftermath too
Thousands crowded into the dome and we already know there is going to be some flooding. No sanitation, limited supplies of anything, it isnt going to be nice.

16. good news! winds have slowed a little. Now at 160 mph.
down from 175 mph. It's still a category 5 but if the dome truly can survive 200 mph winds, then this is good news.

In the meantime, I'm lighting a candle.

19. 15mph can make a big difference
160 mph will be awful, certainly, but every 10 mph of wind makes a huge difference when it comes to structural damage. Homes who were only a mile or two from me during Charley had winds that were 10 mph slower, and they had far fewer downed trees and no serious roof damage. I didn't see siding peeled off in their neighborhoods, either.

Let's hope that this slow down is the beginning of a trend!
