Some positive thoughts on the Dome: Domes are perfect for hurricanes
Edited on Sun Aug-28-05 06:39 PM by jsamuel

This dome house was hit by a hurricane and was not even affected due to the dome design.

This dome design allows air to pass by with the least amount of pressure damage.

2. Ah, a positive thought-thanks, jsamuel. Now
that you mention it, I remember seeing a story about a house along the west coast of FL after a hurricane last year, and it too was dome-shaped. It came through fairly unscathed, unlike the neighboring homes. We can only hope for the best.

6. That dome is anchored directly to the foundation and has very few....
...areas for the wind to get under to wedge the roof away from the structure.

The dome roof of the Superdome is anchored to the upper edge of the structure...if the side panels start to get blown off, and the roof starts to peel, there will be no way to stop it.

I think it will take somewhere around 200+ mph to make that happen, if at all.
