Katrina and FX movie "Oil Storm"
Edited on Sun Aug-28-05 08:30 PM by pstans
Not sure if you remember the FX movie Oil Storm that aired in June. The movie was a fictational documentary on what could happen as the oil supply decreases. The movie started out with Hurricane hitting Louisiana right before Labor Day. New Orleans was evacuated and the Superdome was opened up as a shelter. The Hurricane in the movie was a category 4. In the movie over a thousand people died. But that wasn't the worst of it.

An oil pipeline and refinery South of New Orleans that produces 15% of the nation's oil per day was destroyed. 80% of the Gulf production was destroyed too. In the movie, it took more than a year to repair the damage. On the first day of trading after the Hurricane, oil went from $55 per barrel to over $77 per barrel. This meant that gas prices went up to $4 to $5 a gallon. This led to a series of events that ended up having oil reach over $150 per barrel, gas reaching $9 per gallon, food shortages, and the trucking industry seizing to exist.

It is pretty ironic that just before Labor Day, Katrina is heading towards Louisiana. We can hope that things don't get as bad as the movie, but I am heading out to fill all of my cars with gas and all of my gas tanks with gas. Maybe you should think about doing the same.

Here is the link to the Oil Storm movie.

3. that's pretty weird....almost as if somebody made a movie in 1999
where the snotnosed dopeaholic coward stole an election in which the SCOTUS, against all precedent, including their own history of almost always supporting states' rights vs. federal incursion, STOP the vote count and install a lying loser who utilized storm troopers to stop a crucial vote count, all the while accusing his opponent of doint exactly what he himself was doing.

now, THAT would be an interesting movie.....

11. Destined To Be The 'China Syndrome' Of This Generation
Originally released during a period when the fear of nuclear energy was on the front of everyone’s minds, The China Syndrome touched on a very hot topic. Ironically, only 12 days after the theatrical release of the film an accident as described in the film happened at Three Mile Island power plant in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
