I saw Steve Earle's "The Revolution Starts Now"

Playing as the bed music for a GM commercial. Not sure how to feel about it. There's very little I abhor more than hearing some of my favorite tunes turned into TV tunes but this song in particular really doesn't seem to made for a car commercial.

1. First time I've listened to him

he said he played on Broadway in a play called Apple Tree

My all-time favorite play......originally with Alan Alda and Barbara Harris....best music around.....

It was based on the story, The Diary of Adam and Eve according to Mark Twain. Larry Blyden of TV game show fame played Lucifer in all three acts.....

I love that play....still miss it.

2. Is that the commercial that says there's no word in the japanese

language for "Pickup Truck"? Hubby and I get a real kick out of that one. Apparently they haven't cottoned on to the fact that there isn't an english word for it either.

I just saw Steve Earle's "The Revolution Starts Now" on a CAR COMMERCIAL!!! A little wrong or is it just me?

5. No it's wrong

It's not just you, I've seen it and don't know how they got the rights to it, gm sucks I'll never buy a gm product. This isn't the first time they've done this, they used to use Jackson Browne's " Information Wars " in a commercial.

I guess GM is watching the Iraq war polls and trying to pull in that loony liberal, anti-war demographic

6. I see that commercial all the time

But that's what they've done for decades. They corporatize that kind of music, nullifying the impact of whatever the lyrics may be.

9. The one that pissed me off the most was CCR's "Fortunate Son"

used in a jeans commercial. They completely defanged that song, making it appear as though it were a jingoistic flag-waving anthem, when it's really a biting critique of of that mentality.

"London Calling" used to sell cars pissed me off, too, much more than Earle's song in the new commercial.

8. I find it distasteful, myself, but who knows what Earle's doing w/the $

Chumbawumba took a pile of cash from a car corporation (can't remember which one) so the corporation could use "I Get Knocked Down" in a commercial.

The band then donated the money to watchdog groups that monitor the car corporation.

Maybe Earle's using the money in a similar war for causes he believes in?...even if he isn't, I still like him and admire him a lot. This won't diminish how much.

song rights are owned by the company a lot of times. I know fogerty doesn't have control of all his stuff. won't keep me from listening either I just hate the mental connection it causes.
