CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) - President Bush on Sunday urged people living in the path of Hurricane Katrina to take the storm extremely seriously and follow orders to evacuate to higher ground.

``We will do everything in our power to help the people in the communities affected by this storm,'' Bush said as the hurricane, packing winds up to nearly 175 mph, bore down on a stretch of coastline that included New Orleans, a city sitting below sea level with 485,000 inhabitants.

6. Well that does surprise me because
my husband had the telly on CNN and no one mentioned the chimperor. I figured that he was doing his usual disappearing act until shamed into making a statement.

7. It's not really news when a President (or pResident) gives a statement
Like that. He'll probably be on a lot after the storm hits, talking about what FEMA is doing to help out the victims.

There was another thread from somebody who's sister is a FEMA volunteer, and said they're massing huge numbers of FEMA folks in Memphis, to dispatch after they know where they are needed most.

4. Yes. A state of emergency has been declared in NO, and
freedom is still on the march in Iraq. All is well with the world. :sarcasm: That new constitution will do wonders. :eyes:

10. In an eight minute speech, only one minute was for Katrina
the rest was for convincing Americans that the war in Iraq is a good thing.
