21. Losing LOOP and Fourchon
will be huge.

LOOP is where supertankers dock to pump oil through pipelines into this country.

This is bad.

12. just following the projected path
If ALL of these facilities (including one LOOP facility) are destroyed or incapacitated, we're looking at 1.3million bcd lost (Barrels per calendar day). Not to take away from the human cost, N.O> is where i'd always dreamed of retiring to... but this IS a big issue.:scared:

17. Every hour that passes before * opens the SPR brings him closer
to his demise. Can you imagine what Wall Street will do in the morning when they find out that he hasn't already released oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Should have done it Saturday when they evacuated the platforms. He thinks he's being soooooo clever. Like to see his face when he sees what a disaster this really is. Might make him read 'My Pet Goat' again (not that he got much out of it on the first pass).

14. Thank you for posting this. It shows precisely why this storm...
might be not just the death of New Orleans but the end of America as we know it: a huge oil shortage and skyrocketing fuel prices destroying the national transport system, imposing starvation-level food shortages and subsequent total economic collapse. This is the price we pay for our fatal dependence on petroleum -- every bit of it the result of betrayal inflicted on us by our politicians (who in service to Big Oil have methodically obstructed the development of adequate rail transport).

It is also approximately the scenario predicted by a well-researched cable-TV film last June: Oil Storm. In the film, the primary cause of the disaster -- apart from the betrayal of the American people by politicians bought off by Big Oil -- was a hurricane wiping out the concentration of refining, storage and off-loading facilities around New Orleans.

and this map graphic sums up a whole lot in one easily grasped look.

Excellent! Thanks much for posting this.
