"Superdome filled with the poorest of the poor in this city"
"140,000 of the residents have no cars, they simply have no cars." Susan Roesgen speaking on CNN. (For those who thought the people 'refused to leave'.)

1. Exactly. Their choice was to stay in their homes or

go to the Super Dome. I wondered if city buses could have evacuated them. . .

4. Where are the city buses, the school buses, the charter buses
the U-Haul moving vans, the freight trains, the semi trailers, the C-130's and Chinook transports that state Air Nat'l Gaurds from around the country could have flown their by now. I just heard a formation of Chinooks fly over heard (Yuma, AZ).... if they would have left at noon they could have SO been there by now. If people had their shit together (feds and state), these people would be in so much danger. I am furious!

6. Poor planning
Often times, history shows us that things that need to be done aren't done until after there is massive loss of life.

10. Anyone one of us here, if President at noon eastern time today....
could have gotten all those people out of New Orleans no problem with no pre-existing "plan."

You don't have to get too creative.

Executive Order 1: The urgent danger to life and property in southern Lousiana (list countries) I hereby grant federal and state officials the authority to take full possession of and full utilization of any and all means of transportation deemed necessary by said federal and state officials to reduce loss of life and injury. Property shall be returned in good faith at the end of the situation but the government's good faith shall suffice, there shall be no written guarantee. Although this Executive Order makes no presumption of its own Constitutional integrity, it remains an Executive Order of the President of the United States and thereby carries the full power of the Government of the United States until the Authority of this Office is otherwise restrained either by legislation passed in the chambers of the Congress of the United States or by rulings made in the courts of the Sumpreme Court of the United States.

Within 2 hours every state's air national gaurd would have a zone of operation they would be responsible for. State school officials working with local school districts, police, etc. would have all area school buses, city buses, etc. assigned to various sectors. Freight trains would be emptied of freight and ready to haul people out of the city to makeshift airstrips outside the city that would be busy as O'Hare with cargo planes flying people to camps deep inland.

It could easily be done. Marines, national gaurd, highway patrol, firemen, etc. going door to door, arresting people on sight and evacuating them by force.

9. The Super Dome is next to the train/bus station
Hopefully, we won't need to look back on this as tragic.

Jeanne Meserve on CNN, local in NO, said that the people in the Superdome are poor and have no cars. The city knew that this would happen and simply had no plan for them to evacuate.

It's outrageous isn't it? More than likely the public buses will take damage anyway, so why didn't they just put them to good use and start busing people out from the Superdome when they had a chance?
