A top Army contracting official who criticized a large, noncompetitive contract with the Halliburton Company for work in Iraq was demoted Saturday for what the Army called poor job performance.

The official, Bunnatine H. Greenhouse, has worked in military procurement for 20 years and for the past several years had been the chief overseer of contracts at the Army Corps of Engineers, the agency that has managed much of the reconstruction work in Iraq....

Will there be a whimper from our esteemed congress or senate that this good woman has been punished for exposing corruption? I doubt it.

2. Sure hope there are people who plan to help her get her job back.
She has so much courage to have stood right up to these creeps. Right in the heroic range. They've fought her every step of the way.

She was shafted, clearly, as all whistleblowers are. We need her to win against these greedy, larcenous clowns.

remember, THIS administration rewards incompetence, not competence. How dare she think she could keep her job after doing such good work.

9. How Many More Instances
will it take before we finally reach "the straw that broke the camel's back" and the uprising begins to demand our government clean its act up? She deserves support from all the little people, `cause it's obvious none of the biggees are gonna help.

27. It's our fault, too...
We're all over the place, as far as supporting our leaders. There's a tremendous strength of character that it shows, to have individual opinion and all. But it undercuts our political strength. I think middle America (those that aren't passonate about politics) see strength in UNITY. They're not bad people, they look at the world differently and are scared (me too).

Example: In the post below WildClareySage wants to shitcan Rummy, and everyone agrees.

Sen. Joe Biden says the same thing - look what is said:

When does it stop being some kind of disgusting joke? (I do love laughing at the repug idiots)

I don't get it, our kids are dying over there.

Until he and his ilk do, I'm not buying the reason for her firing.

Blumner: 'National security' too often government's cover for malfeasance
By Robyn Blumner
Tribune Media Services

It is axiomatic that secrecy is the handmaiden of mischief, especially by government. When we are facing a foreign threat, the government tends to toss around terms like ''national security'' as a justification for increased secrecy. But often, such an invocation is not as much about making our nation safe as protecting the government from embarrassment or challenge by critics.
That is what makes the case of Sibel Edmonds so dangerous.

Now the Bush administration is using the privilege to block Edmonds entirely. Think about how dangerous it is if whistleblowers who bring attention to internal mismanagement that hampers our intelligence efforts have their careers destroyed and are left without recourse. How many more insiders would be willing to come forward? How about none.
Edmonds, with the help of the American Civil Liberties Union, is asking the Supreme Court to take up her case and sharply narrow the state-secrets privilege. In the long run, transparency is what keeps us safe and free. President Kennedy may have understood this, but George W. Bush is no John Kennedy.

19. This is absolute bullshit!!! Outrageous!!!!
That woman possesses the skillsets, determination, and attention to detail that keeps the IG AWAY...and they demote her? Christ on a bicycle, she is OUR steward--she is one of the functionaries on the front lines of FRAUD, WASTE and ABUSE prevention.

Beyond the pale...I am nothing short of horrified. This doesn't just smack of politics, this demotion is entirely political. How dare they?

22. Recent article from Vanity Fair
<snip>
The Spoils of War
Halliburton subsidiary KBR got $12 billion worth of exclusive contracts for work in Iraq. But even more shocking is how KBR spent some of the money. Former U.S. Army Corps of Engineers official Bunnatine Greenhouse is blowing the whistle on the Dick Cheney–linked company's profits of war

This time, she was sure, they were going to get her.

29. There is no justice anymore.
There hasn't been any since Nov 2000 when I heard "This just in! Fla goes to Gore."....
Everything since then has been wrong wrong wrong.

Just like the war, and Bolton, and ohio 2004, ....
You see it coming, and you know that they can't possibly get away with it. Then they go ahead and do it anyway, and they get away with it.
Bastards all of them.
