Local Shelters Open for Katrina Evacuees

The Red Cross has opened several evacuation shelters in the Four States.

Eacuees can go to Louisiana State University-Shreveport, the Civic Center in Monroe, Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, and the Ruston Civic Center.

2. In Mississippi

Jackson and Canton have most of their Churches being used as shelters.

Greenwood, Memphis, Tupelo, Meridian, Hattisburg and just about every major city in MS, AL, LA, AK, and TX have Church shelters even if no official red cross shelters.

3. Remember that scene in the original War of the Worlds?

Where all the people are huddled in the church, and then the Martians come and vaporize them all?

That's what I see in my head every time I think of people taking shelter in a church.
