the "eleven hours"
Very nice touch.

The eleven hours between CIA informing Gonzalez of the investigation, and Gonzalez sending out the memo to staff not to destroy evidence.

Even if it's not significant, it puts the image in people's minds of massive shredding in the White House.

Bringing up this gap shows the dems are playing hardball with this scandal. A very good sign.

4. As damning as that is, don't forget the story was known back in July.
Plenty of time to "lose" things...

7. another gap
In my view, the three month gap is the more significant one. Why didn't Bush do anything from July to Sept?

But the dems asking about the eleven hour gap gives a more vivid image. In reality, there probably wasn't a shredding party that night, but the question kind of suggests something like that.

10. He didn't do anything because he figured it would blow away and dis-
appear like every other bungle he has perpetrated. Someone would "take care" of it just like someone took care of every other fiasco he has presided over the last 40 years.

6. What is with this administration and the number 11?????
9/11, Flight 11 on 9/11, 11 hours, etc., etc. Remember all the 11 consistencies with 9/11?? They must think it's their magic number.

9. Nothing may have been shredded in the time between the Novak story
& the Friday night story, simply because it wasn't getting enough attention to frighten any of the culprits. They'd been through so many things like this and come out totally unscathed, that the idea of danger may never have occurred to them until the new wave of attention hit.

11. Well, my cynical nature compels me to believe there well may be
shredding going on even now. Just because Alberto issued "instructions" to preserve everything is no reason to imagine the goons will comply with it.
:grr:

15. Tsk. Such cynicism!
Yea, I'd imagine so too. Plus beating on a pile of hard drives with a sledge hammer out in the Rose Garden.

I think the outing came from Dickless Cheney, who does not work out of the WH, but out of his bunker.

13. If they find no hard evidence....
from this investigation, I suspect at least two of the six journalists are going to come forward and finger Rove. Ambassador Wilson on Nightline last night said he planned to turn these journalists names over to the FBI because some of them called him right after they spoke with Rove, and they told him Rove said his wife was fair game. I don't see the CIA initiating this investigation without having the assurance from these journalists that they'd be willing to talk.

17. So are they deliberate obstructors, casual incompetents or oblivious?
They're far too good to be either of the latter, but those are the only excuses available...

They sat on this for over TEN WEEKS, and only started investigating when pushed, then they dragged their heels once the seriousness was apparent to all. It's like that scene in "The Longest Day" where the Germans are throwing everything in the fireplace...

Remember Enron's contract company "Shredco"? I wonder what happened to them...
