Candlelight Vigil: President Bush, Our loved ones are dying in an unjust war. WHY?
Monday Evening, August 29, 2005 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
The President will be staying overnight at the Hotel Del Coronado on Monday night, prior to giving a speech commemorating VJ Day at Naval Station North Island Tuesday morning. A vigil is planned for Monday night and a demonstration early Tuesday morning.
Gold Star Father, Fernando Suarez del Solar, along with military families, veterans and other patriotic Americans from the community will hold a candlelight vigil near President Bush's hotel Monday night. This will memorialize and honor the service men and women who have already died in the Iraq war, and call for the President to end the war and bring the troops home safely.
WHERE: On Coronado Island along Ocean Blvd. Near Flora Ave and Rh Dana Place. (Directions: Take Coronado Bridge to Orange Ave. Left on Orange Ave. to Rh Dana Place. Right on Rh Dana Place - becomes Ocean Blvd.. Vigil will be on Ocean Blvd. along the beach.) No parking will be permitted along Ocean Blvd. on Monday and Tuesday. Carpool if you can and park as far away from the Hotel Del as you can.

Gates will open at 6:00 AM. for the 10,000 "invited guests" and the event starts at 8:00 AM. (Oh darn, they forgot to invite us! Did the lack of a formal invitation ever stop NCCPJ from making the most of a presidential visit?)
North County folks can use public transportation to get there. Join us on the Coaster (last car) Don't forget to bring your favorite signs -- but no wood sticks (cardboard tubes are OK)

Hey, regime change is never easy - set your alarm clock and go to bed early on Monday night! Think of it as boot camp for progressives...)
At 05:23 AM we will take the COASTER to SAN DIEGO (last car) Get off the stop at SANTA FE DEPOT at approximately 06:21 AM. At 06:50 AM take the 903 Bus to NAS NORTH ISLAND MAIN GATE Get off the stop on 4TH ST at ALAMEDA BLVD/NASNI MAIN GATE at approximately 07:13 AM. Walk approx. 1 block NE on Alameda Blvd. Total walking is 0.11 miles. to NORTH ISLAND
Return trip (leave at 9:00 AM) Regular Fare: $ 5.75 Senior & Disabled Fare: $ 2.75
Walk 0.1 mile SE from NORTH ISLAND to 3RD ST at I AVE At 09:13 AM take the 901 Bus DOWNTOWN to SAN DIEGO Get off the stop on BROADWAY at KETTNER at approximately 09:41 AM. At 09:45 AM take the COASTER to OCEANSIDE Get off the stop at OCEANSIDE TRANSIT CENTER(ARRIVE) at approximately 10:42 AM
The bus will drop people off at Alameda. There is a posibility that there may be a location change from Third St. to Ocean Blvd. Watch for people with signs "Support Out Troops" and "What Noble Cause?"
People who drive can park their cars to the North (right) of Third and South ( left ) of Fourth. In between Third and Fourth (the entrance and exit roads to the Naval Base and town from the bridge) there is permit parking. DO NOT PARK BETWEEN THIRD AND FOURTH ON THE LETTER STREETS. You can be sure the cops will be looking for easy tickets. Parking is okay on the letter streets as long as it is not between 3rd and 4th!
