I only need one sign to warn me of Fascism
Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 10:20 AM by ck4829
Some Professor has made a list of 14 signs that warn a person that Fascists will be knocking on your door soon.

That's all fine and dandy, but in reality, you only need one sign.

It's the crime and punishment sign.

It's something that can be redefined to fit the Fascist's Political Agenda or has no true definition.

Usually when a person commits a crime, they are called criminals.

However, Fascists create a new class of people who commit 'crimes'.

Hitler had the Jews

Cold War Dictators had Leftists

And Bush, he has Terrorists

BTW, I am saying that Bush is using the Terrorists as a scapegoat. BUT, I am not saying that the terrorists are innocent, but the whole country is focused on the Terrorists, and while all of this is happening, then the Far Right (with the help of Bush) sneaks in and changes everything (just as they have been doing for the past couple years).

You don't need 14 signs to warn you of Fascism, you only need 1.

1. Keep in mind - homosexuals, liberals, intellectuals, and divorces are
also ruining this country. It depends on who you listen to and how close the next election is.

I'd hate to be recently divorced from a same-sex marriage while teaching Islam at the liberal arts college. I'd be number one of the FBI's watch list.

2. So ...
The Jews of Germany and Europe = Osama Bin Laden?
The Communist of Central & South American & SE Asia = Mohammad Atta

BUT, I am not saying that the terrorists are innocent - but please add that the Jews & Political Prisoners were.

All in all, I think this fails the equivalency test.

4. The Jews and Political Prisoners were innocent
As I also said before this category of 'Criminal against the State' can be constantly redefined to the Fascist's current Agenda.

3. There's an even better, and infallible single sign, namely
when the same group of people run both government and industry. That, by definition, is fascism: estato corporativo.

6. here is a perspective of terrorists from the Tibetans
to paraphrase.. 'They are just people who are suffering that want to be happy. but use unskillful means to achieve happiness. those unskillful means end up creating more suffering.

there are always variables and i didn't get into them .. just the essence.

Skillful means are acquired thru meditation..

A very important element unknown to most westerners, is that Islam never had an 'Age of Reason', they do not use reason, they use guidance from the Koran.

of course there are moderates like the Moors i lived with in Senegal, they weren't uptight about it.. they were more like Unitarians.. most that i met were not into it much at all..

10. "...Islam never had an 'Age of Reason'..."
Tenth century Islam was the leading light of scientific research -- mathematics, astronomy, alchemy, the study of the sciences of the ancient greeks and romans. The Islamic 'Age of Reason' was cut short, however, by repeated attacks by christian fanatics, superstitious barbarians who coveted the wealth of the Islamic world.

There is a certain irony that the 'enlightened West' is under attack by fanatic Muslims, the seeds of whose culture were planted by the west during the crusades which stifled the Muslims' own enlightenment.

7. Many 'isms need an enemy, or scapegoat.
Fascism is no different.

It's merely convenient when some outside force steps forward to become such a scapegoat. But, when no outside source "volunteered," many 'isms have taken steps to create one.

8. It was not "some professor," it was Umberto Eco.
It was Umberto Eco and there were 14 signs of proto-Fascism, or "Ur-Fascism," as he describes it in "Eternal Fascism: 14 Ways of Looking at a Blackshirt."

http://www.themodernword.com/eco/eco_blackshirt.html

It's a very good and valuable read.

And here's the only sign you need to see the face of Fascism in Amerika:

Hint: Translate the caption into German.
