Grieving mom deserves our sympathy
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Cindy Sheehan lose a son in the war in Iraq?
So why has she suddenly become the bad guy in the eyes of some Americans -- up to and including the president of the United States?

<snip>

Thus, the response of the Bush camp has been to ignore her requests for another audience with the king, er, excuse me, the president.
While Sheehan wants to talk, Bush plainly doesn't want to listen. He couches it by saying her sentiments aren't representative of military families.

<snip>

Instead, he has steadfastly refused to see her -- apparently sticking to a self-imposed quota of one presidential audience per dead child.

I just love this article! Go Susan Go!

1. I have to disagree with the writer that
Bush has a quota: one visit per dead child. I don't think Bush has met with the parents of every dead son or daughter, just some of them.

5. I think she was making a comparison of
blivet** and his "one question per reporter" mandate. I am sure he hasn't met with many parents, not unscreened ones for sure. I think he sentiment of "one dead child, one audience" was right on the mark though.

2. Good article.
I doubt that every parent wants to meet bush. Some may refuse an audience with his majesty. I certainly would.

4. Because only "good" people support the war
So, giving her son for it wasn't enough. She had to give her voice too, in the eyes of these people; even if you don't like the war, stand silent. But she won't.

So she's bad. To me, it's just as simple as that, in these simple minds.

That, and many of them don't have a clue what it's like. Killing is so much more meaningful than birth, and manly too, and we're at WAR, so we'd all better act like men. Screwed up stuff like that, and, neocons hate women anyway. My two cents. It doesn't matter to these CLOWNS that she supported the war with her own son, and only now, that she's had to have a close look at what happened to him and why that she stood against it.

I think those that leave the war camp will always be the most ridiculed.

It's not so much that they hate her, to me, as that they deny everything about her identity, and ridicule her thoughts, as if she has no right to them. As if they're silly woman things, silly mother things. As if it's silly and stupid to protest the war.

They don't just want to insult her. They want to discredit her.

Fact is, it doesn't matter if her thoughts represent the majority of the military or NOT. They're valid concerns, and if she's RIGHT, it matters a WHOLE lot more than if she's wrong. Which is exactly what the war supporters can't deal with, and go along with presidential policy of "ignore until impossible", they cannot face what it means if they're wrong.

They have to eliminate the wrong, which in this case, is Cindy. She has to be wrong; they can't entertain anything else. They can't face how horrible it will be if they were wrong all along. Ignore until impossible. Then, proclaim ignorance.

I sure as heck hope none of us lets these jerks claim they didn't know. WE were all screaming it; we have the many insults to prove it.
