Home Depot is up, so are oil companies! Woo hoo!

:sarcasm:

Sheesh. You'd think this hurricane would do to the market what 9/11 had done (make it drop several hundred...) But, no... and even I read this AM that the oil prices sans hurricane were about tightness of supply. Not availability. They are choking us with their greed and it's only going to get worse; at best prices will remain the same because they will feel guilty AND NOT raise prices once Katrina leaves...

As usual, money is more important. x(

4. The stocks were tanking early this a.m.
then Shrub announced that he "might" release some of the oil reserves. Then the stocks started going up. He just said that to relay the fears on the market.

7. Also it's a bit less catastrophic than was expected, so
the market is "relieved." Should not translate into gains since it's still bad but that's how it works. Plus the crude oil prices are off their highs -- $67-68 now rather than $70, and that's a "relief" too, esp. since he promised to open the reserves.

5. Um....
Isn't "tightness of supply" the same thing as "availability"? No matter what you want to call it, there isn't enough to go around, prices will go up, and it's not going to get better any time soon. Money trumps preparedness for eventual decline in oil production. @#$@# do something productive with your record profits, punks.

12. If there isn't enough to go around, where are the gas lines?
Where are the stations that are closed because of "No Gas Today"?

Peak oil is coming fast, when cost of production will skyrocket, but if that was happening now there would be no record profits now. They are soaking us in preparation for the collapse that they expect, when profits will be harder to come by, and it will be sooner than later.
