Poll question: Involvement in the Stock Market

I'm curious as how involved we are in the stock market - this question has been asked before (I may have asked it) but the mix changes all the time so I'm curious to know where we are now.

I'm not asking about whether or not you invest in "blue" companies or if you invest responsibly (that's another possible poll) - for the purposes of this poll I'll just assume you are.

1. I have equity and debt instruments as well as options.

For the purposes of portfolio development, I consider myself a sophisticated investor with a high risk tolerance. So far, YTD I am up 18%, which isn't too shabby.

I dabble in options through a small Chicago trading house.

I thought about including other types of investments, but decided to limit it to the stock market as the most discussed type of investment (well that and housing I guess)

6. I still have a trading account

that I can't seen to close without paying more in various fees than I would receive from the value of the certificates. They're just worthless paper, and over time, more worthless paper keeps getting shoveled into the account. It's a transfer agent scam, and something I need to deal with.

I'd really like to abandon the account.

Since the great Enron deception, where that company, bankers, and accountants, all seemed to conspire with each other, I cannot in good faith give any more investment money to corporate. I cannot discern the corporate liars from the non-liars.

I voted: "I have negligible involvement in the stock market." I would have none if it wasn't for that private account that is nothing more than a future debit on the day that I finally decide to close it for good.

Nope, President Bush, private retirement accounts are nothing but scams foisted on the masses by over-educated white-collar predators.

7. I'm a stockbroker

so I invest quite a bit. My money and many other people's money too.

8. I Used to Invest Actively

but now I'm very conservative and park most of the 401k money in cash. I do have a double short position on the NASDAQ (which is guess is not conservative).

I voted for the company plan, but there are several answers that apply to me.

I work for a brokerage firm (IT department) and get an annual profit-sharing bonus that goes in to an IRA mutual fund. I also have a "rainy day" mutual fund that gets a few bucks every paycheck (one advantage of being in the business is that I don't have to pay any load or 12b1 fees :smug: )

I've dabbled back when tech stocks were hot; even made a nice bit of cash. I don't do that any more. Nowadays, I would just as soon put a few dollars on the state lottery. I figure, if I'm going to lose money, I can at least help pay for Washington's schools.
