but a guess is that Algiers has a totally separate treatment system (since they are on the other side of the river from most of the metro).

As for the CBD, its anyone's guess. It is possible they have a separate treatment system as well, but that would be strange.

Thank God someone was there to help him. He looked reluctant or dazed or both and probably needed someone to coach him out of the car and help him to safety.

9. The man said clearly he couldn't see the water

if you have even driven in a flooded area its not unusual not to see the water till you hit it. It tends to blend into the roadway. The man clearly said thats what happened when they interviewed him.

I more question why he was out driving at all. but maybe he had an emergency i dont know.

16. That's what I'm thinking

and even if you see the water, it's hard to tell the depth. We had a bad flood in South Sacramento, where I grew up, when I was small. My Dad drove our car (I can't remember if we were in the Pinto wagon or the Javelin, not that it matters) into a intersection that seemed to have water a few inches deep, and before we knew it we had water up past the doorjambs of the car. The car sputtered through, but it was scary and a close thing.

Later that night other cars got stuck, our neighbors had a 4x4 with a winch and they pulled a few cars out of the road.

He was probably trying to check on friends and family. I'd probably get myself into trouble like that checking on the people I love. :(

PS Sorry if I keep telling flood stories, but flooding is a pretty regular occurance around here and the only natural disaster I know much about.

Did you see the first video with the boat, the people of the community who could not afford to leave (of chose to stay) were helping with the guard. Not that they wouldn't anyways, but the rescue effort seems slow compared to what is out there. And now their are bodies in the water. I bet they are all of the less fortunate, the elderly, the poor children…

10. Question

I don't know if this makes me a bad guy, but I am watching MSNBC and they are talking about reports of people who stayed in their homes and not following the manditory evac order calling radio stations asking for someone to come and rescue them as they have crawled up on the roof, and the authorities say that it is to dangerous for them to attempt to rescue them, I guess I don't feel that sorry sometimes. These people knew the risks of this storm, in fact anyone who had a pulse in this nation knew how dangerous this storm was, and compound the fact that anyone who lives in New Orleans knows that the city it under sea level, so nothing good can come of an oncoming hurricane. They chose to risk it and they will have to live with the consequences, I don't know, maybe it makes me a bad guy so I will have to deal with it.

Next thing, our gas here in Duluth, MN has gone up 0.10 in the wake of Katrina, now I understand that it is going to cause some problems, but how is effecting the gas that is ALREADY IN THE TANKS!! Plus we have a refinery right here in the Duluth/Superior area, I grew up about a mile away from it. So if the prices in the Gulf Coast are lower due to the proximity to the source of the gas, why wouldn't the same hold here in this area. I know that I am jousting at windmills because the moron in chief isn't going to hold his buddies feet to the fire over the prices. It is crazy that my little Dodge Stratus now costs almost $30 to fill up, and I would us E85, but that costs just a little bit less. Now what is the deal with that, it is made of corn for Christ sake if there is a real renewable resouce, I think that corn would qualify. If you don't agree, take a drive through southern Minnesota and Iowa and see all of the damn corn that is grown. Okay now I feel a little bit better.

Some of the ones calling for help who were at home were emergency personnel who had to stay to provide relief to the others. Those should be rescued first and foremost.

I agree its hard to have a lot of sympathy for those who CHOSE to stay for no reason other than they knew better than the warnings. I dont want them to die either, but i dont mind them waiting a while for rescue. They are wasting valuable rescue resources for people who could not leave. They are selfish imho

I agree, the emergency personnel that had to stay should be rescued I am talking about Joe Bob and Bubba who didn't want to leave because that would make them cowards.

14. I saw a man interviewed who could not leave because his wife had to work.

Most of the people who could not leave were very poor and did not have the options that most evacuees had. Poverty is a bitch, and with an oncoming hurricane, it can be deadly. Some people probably were too stubborn to leave, but others, perhaps some with cognitive impairment and/or psychiatric disabilities were unable to grasp the severity of the situation.

15. As someone who lives on the water........

.....and occasionaly has to deal with hurricanes but has riden them all out, I agree with you. When my family makes the decision to stay, we take into account that if we are put in danger, the only ones we have to rely on are ourselves......I would never expect a civil agency to come bail me out after I made the choice to ignore their warning.
