2. You know, I don't really care about this stuff about Clark
because we will know in time through the debates how he stands on the issues, and through his campaigning. I'm a Dean gal, but it really seems like nit-picking to me.

I'll wait and see before I judge, and I suggest we all do the same.

4. I was making a little joke and pointing out that Clark...
is really bright and thinks for himself.
I am a huge Clark supporter.

Thanks for you equanimity and fairness.

8. Applause! Applause!
There you go. It's really nuts for us to argue here which guy is most "electable." That's what primaries are for. Also, someone who looks good right now could imlode tomorrow.

Let 'em all make their case, and may the best candidate win.

3. No, military types are almost always notorious conformists.
"Like all the members of the military profession, I never had a
thought of my own until I left the service. My mental faculties remained in suspended animation while I obeyed the orders of higher-ups. This is typical with everyone in the military service...."

- Major General Smedley Butler, USMC

just like all the other military guys who hang around Democratic Underground and take offense when people downgrade us or try to shove us in some box labeled 'military mindset'.

If you are being hit for being a johnny come lately to the Democratic party, shouldn't you try to counter that by at least registering as a Democrat?

Utter incompetence by Gen. Clark and his staff.

In addition, he is still registered as a lobbyist. He had to duck out of questioning on that one.

WES STILL A LOBBYIST

By BRIAN BLOMQUIST and VINCENT MORRIS Post Correspondents

October 1, 2003 -- WASHINGTON - Democratic front-runner Wesley Clark joined the campaign two weeks ago, but he remains a registered Washington lobbyist, The Post has learned.

Clark's continuing registration as a hired gun for Acxiom, a Little Rock information-storage firm that hired him for $150,000 per year, was ripped by one good-government expert who said it "doesn't smell particularly good."

Asked by a Post reporter why he's still a registered lobbyist, Clark responded, "Uh" and then ducked the question on his way into a meeting on Capitol Hill with congressional supporters.

"I can't think of anybody else who was registered as a federal lobbyist at the time when he declared for the presidency," said Bill Allison, a spokesman for the Center for Public Integrity.

10. There's a big difference between giving someone a chance
and giving someone a chance to be president.

11. He's getting a chance.
But it is fair to point out that he is making mistakes. He shouldn't be registered as a lobbyist and he should already be registered as a Democrat.

It's not Clark you should blame- it's his manager and staff. Good candidates have been derailed by bad campaigns before.

16. Well Clark is a registered independent running on the Dem ticket
and this is the DemocraticUnderground. So you really should not be surprised that it matters to MANY of us.

And if we are going to blame Clark's handlers for not registering him as a Dem it does not portray Clark as the "brilliant" man we've been told he is by his supporters.

Perhaps he is brilliant and absent-minded and that is why he forgot to register as a Dem. But that does not sound like presidential material to me. Or perhaps he just isn't a Dem. Oh Wait, he's not--he an independent. LOL

9. I don't have problems with Independents
in fact I wish more were in public office, but I thought it was a requirement that you had to be a registered Democrat to run in the Democratic Primaries.

18. This is funny in regards to the proposed DU rule of not suggesting
a candidate is not a Democrat. Just think if they were in place it would be against the rules to tell the truth that he is not a Democrat, he is a registered Independent. LOL
