Wonder why Fox viewers are so stupid? Take a look at their messengers
Still Dreaming of Saddam-9/11 Connection

Remember the study that found that watching Fox News actually made people less well-informed about Iraq and al Qaeda? Turns out the same is true of people who work at Fox, too.

People like John Gibson, host of "The Big Story." Gibson is one of those who apparently believes Iraq had something to do with 9/11.

In his "My Word" segment on Wednesday (August 24, 2005), Gibson was griping about a Los Angeles Time "unsigned editorial" (that's the only kind there are, John) criticizing Bush for conflating Al Qaeda and Iraq, specifically for Bush's failure "to note that Al Qaeda put down roots in Iraq only after the invasion or that Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11 or Usama bin Laden."

"Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11? OK, maybe, for now ... " Gibson said, sounding not at all convinced.

Gibson then attempted to debunk the other two points in the editorial, claiming that the handful of encounters the 9/11 Commission found between bin Laden and Iraqi officials over more than a decade amounted to some kind of credible cooperation between the two. And then he brought up al Zarqawi, of course.

No wonder Fox News viewers have more misconceptions about Iraq and 9/11 than viewers of any other network. As the PIPA study from 2003 found, 80 percent of Fox viewers held at least one misconception, such as Iraq's responsiblity for 9/11. The study found support for the war on Iraq was stronger among people who held such misconceptions.

Which explains why Bush has to keep linking Iraq and Al Qaeda and why Fox News has to keep helping him. The truth is just too dangerous.
