Andy Spahn: "Clark most viable opponent to defeat Bush"
Clark has stirred Hollywood donors who seem to view him as the most viable opponent to defeat President George W. Bush.

Andy Spahn, a political adviser who runs corporate affairs for Dreamworks, attended the Spielberg lunch with Clark, who is based in Arkansas.

"There's a lot of buzz about General Clark now," Spahn said. "He combines in one package the attributes of several other candidates. He's got the Southern base of John Edwards, the outsider status of Howard Dean and a military record that trumps John Kerry."

Morton, recently host to a dinner for Clark with Jordan Kerner, a producer, said: "Simply put, I was blown away by the man. He's pro-choice, pro-affirmative action. He's fiscally responsible. He wants to repeal the Bush tax cuts for the rich, which I have no problem with and every affluent person I spoke to has no problem with.

"Besides, Republicans have generally been synonymous with generals," Morton said. "To have a Democratic candidate with his military résumé is a powerful element to add to the whole package."

Clark, perhaps because he is the newest hopeful, perhaps because he has no political background, seems to have resonated here. Mark Fabiani, a top adviser to Clark who worked at the Clinton White House, said, "The outpouring of interest from California has been incredible, and we're struggling to keep up with it."

.....At a recent dinner here, Clark was given a kind of third-degree about his environmental views by a music executive. By the account of one participant, the general passed with flying colors.

11. Apparently - the reporter spoke to ONE person - not that only one
person out of the group was impressed. Just have to be a wet blanket don't you? You must be jealous....

5. If Clark was anti-NAFTA he'd win 20% of the Republican vote
that's all it would take, just read freerepublic threads about outsourcing, "free trade", H1B and L1 visas, and the corporate scandals. Bush wouldn't stand a chance.

7. what Clark doesn't have
"There's a lot of buzz about General Clark now," Spahn said. "He combines in one package the attributes of several other candidates. He's got the Southern base of John Edwards, the outsider status of Howard Dean and a military record that trumps John Kerry."

what Clark doesn't have is a track record of consistency, loyalty to, and willingness to fight for, the principles he NOW espouses. which are far different from the ones he espoused only 2 years ago.

it's like this. would you want your sister to marry a man who used to be gay, but suddenly decided last month that he really wants to be a het? wouldn't you think that a bit of caution was in order?

15. Puh-lease
"...willingness to fight for the principles he NOW espouses?"

I'll give you a chance to recognize the utter absurdity of that comment and retract.

It's like this: You just hate the military, and anyone from it. That's what you said from the get-go. Everything else you bring up is secondary to the fact that you will never trust anyone from the military. "Most corrupt institution in history" I think were your exact words. But since banging that drum doesn't work so well for you, you grab onto any other string you can.

And it's also like this: I'd ask my sister if she really loved him. If he really loved her. I'd withhold judgment until I met him, and got to know him. But maybe I'm just open-minded.

13. some more good news - az. hispanics choose Clark
http://www.tucsoncitizen.com/breaking/10_1_03dems.html

Despite his late entry into the Democratic presidential sweepstakes, retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark is the favorite among Hispanics in Arizona, according to a new poll.
Clark, who became the 10th Democratic presidential hopeful in late September, is the choice of a quarter of Hispanic voters who have decided who will get their vote, which is half the state's registered Hispanic voters, according to the Phoenix-based Rocky Mountain Poll.

18. Clark "resonates" there because he speaks our language, plus
he has some very politically desirable, formerly mainly Repug associated, military credentials. Given half a chance, this wonderful man will make mince meat out of *Co. :kick: :kick: :kick:

21. Hasn't Clark been a Republican all his life??
Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 06:16 AM by aeon flux
Sorry to rain on the parade, but Clark has even voted for Nixon. Only very recently has Clark 'joined' the Democratic party. Something sounds VERY fishy about that.

Worse, Clark has ZERO political experience, whereas Dean has the practical experience and more importantly a proven track record to turn his liberal ideals into reality.

There's a difference between simply mouthing off liberal slogans (which anyone can do), and having the years of know-how to turn them into reality.
