Freepers: "We built the government housing in New Orleans too strong"

To: mamabadger
Honey, the Tragedy is ongoing, I was hoping that the Government housing was completly destroyed, but we built it too strong, now we have to replace their Bigscreens, Cadillacs and deep pile carpet so they can procreate in a manner that they have been accustomed to.

Will the Media ask One Question for me?

How many people from the 9th ward (who made up the majority of those folks in the SuperDome, will now volunteer to help the National Guard with the Cleanup?

I will bet you the question does not get asked.
I will bet you the answer is ZERO

New Orleans is the Perfect Example of a Welfare State.
The folks in the Ninth Ward do ZERO except to Party, Vote for the people that will enhance their Welfare condition and on a Regular basis collect pretty good size Welfare Checks and just keep pumping out them babies.

I hope that at bare minimum that those folks have to do something other than just point to get their couch or TV replaced.

62. And will those who
benefited from tax subsidies to their SUV's and to the roads they used to escape volunteer for the clean-up.

Just about all of us get welfare (tax deductions of home interest payments, corporate welfare, tax subsidized student loans, etc), where we benefit and the greater community pays. It is just that one kind of welfare, the kind "they" get that get pilloried

92. Here's a question for tt
in his or her closing, they say "kiss my ass." How about we change a couple of letters in one word and I "Kick your ass" instead? What a complete jack off. Usually I don't respond to crap like that, but this is just too much. I live in Iowa, on the off chance that you are reading this. In the words of your president, "bring it on."

126. Isn't he the epitome of sensitivity?
Let's just compare his beloved state of Texas to the state he is disparaging so much:

Louisiana: Population in 2000 = 4,468,976. Average number of individuals receiving welfare benefits between 09/00 and 05/01 = http://www.acf.dhhs.gov/news/families.htm">26,112 , or about 0.58% of the state's population.

Texas: Population in 2000 = 20,851,820. Average number of individuals receiving welfare benefits between 09/00 and 05/01 = http://www.acf.dhhs.gov/news/families.htm">132,747 , or about 0.63% of the state's population.

Also of note is that during the time period of 09/00-05/01, the welfare rolls of Louisiana dropped by 5.3%, while those of Texas dropped by only 2.8%.

What was it TexasTransplant was saying about Louisiana being a Welfare State? It's no more one than any other--except when viewed through the eyes of a bigot.

...but they left TexasTransplants OTHER comment about the 9th ward, welfare, and the National Guard.

I doubt they took it off because it offend THEIR sensibilities.

I think Democratic Underground held a mirror up to their ugly souls and the sight shamed them.

Good job, DU!

And although the Latin middle-ages, I was proud of my translation of the Dies irae: medieval man had a good sense of humor: Remember Jesus if you don't save me your death was for not...

34. Really? I've been reading threads for hours and have fortunately not seen
anything but compassion and concern yet. It's certainly in the great, great majority of posts on NO.

I'm wondering what the AVERAGE sense of freeper postings on the hurricane tragedy in the southern states is. Surely such blazing, murderous bigotry is - if you'll pardon a pun - in the minority. I'd imagine most of the bigotry there is more "civilized," though bigotry is bigotry no matter how openly it is expressed.

Could you explain karma to me? Because I guess I really don't get it - and this is not sarcasm, I'm really interested.

Because most of the nicest people I know have had terrible lives, while the shit like the repukes now in power live in the lap of luxury. Is it supposed to be returned to you in this lifetime, or another? Does it mean peace of mind, or what?

22. Karma is the idea
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 12:33 AM by FreedomAngel82
that whatever you put out you get back to you. If you were really mean to someone in your life then something negative will come back to you. Might not mean that someone will be mean to you like you were, but something negative. It might not happen this life but it'll happen sooner or later whether in the afterlife or your next life. That's the general concept of karma. Whatever you put out you get back. The Universe is energy. So it's best to put out positive energy and goodness.

120. So wouldn't that imply, then
that the people who are stuck in the storm, or who died because of the storm somehow deserved it, whether for something they did in this life or a past one?

That's kind of heartless....

Or that a little girl that gets raped and murdered somehow deserved it because of bad behaviour a few generation ago...??

32. I believe it means
that each of us will get exactly what we deserve, maybe not in this life, but in the afterlife. I do believe this existence on earth is temporary, a proving ground and I think if you don't make the grade, you will pay the debt. Maybe you have to do it again, in shittier circumstances. I don't know for sure but I don't think ultimately that evil gets away with it.

Call me a dreamer, I'm not the only one...

45. my rudimentary understanding, or at least the way I choose to think of it
is that lessons we fail to learn in one life we will learn in another, much like you said.

For example, if we are cruel in one life, we learn in another life how painful it is to be on the receiving end of cruelty. If we are kind in one life, we learn in another how blessed it is to be on the receiving end of kindness.

However, karma is NOT a punishment and NOT a judgement, it is only instruction. So people who are lovely, sweet, and nice in this life are NOT being punished or judged for acts in this life, or in previous lives for that matter.

That's just my understanding of it--I haven't read one single ancient text, not even a bumper-sticker's worth. So what do I know... only that that interpretation rings a bell with me, maybe or probably not with anybody else....?

67. Welcome!
here are some of the answers for you:

n/t=no text
nm=no more
eom=end of message

These and a couple of others mean no message follows, that their response is in the post title.

"Kicking" a post means it's fallen below the first page, so people give it a little "kick" to push it back up to the top. That usually means more people will read it before it disappears again.

They care about this only because the suckers buy into it and it gets them votes. Period. If they were "pro-life" they'd be against capital punishment (yes, yes, I know all the arguments) as well as against war. But the Catholic church, whore that she is, is in bed with the fundies and is taking the whole country for a ride. 112. The National Guard "would begin patrolling the streets in NO"!!!?
Ooooh, to protect somebody - not clear who - from all those "looters" trying to find food and water?

DU poster Newshoud56 put it well:

The poster who speculated Homeland Security (FEMA) is trying to suppress the story is probably correct: note how the National Weather Service guy just interviewed on CNN weaseled out of answering all questions about the levee failure. Depending upon the depth to which the lake drains, this could destroy the city, something that would reflect very badly on Bush given (1) his seeming indifference, (2) his slashing of N.O.'s relief and levee-maintenance budgets and (3) severe depletion of the National Guard by Iraq.

OUR National Guard should have been there helping from the start, saving desperate people, distributing water and food, maybe even helping to shore up the levees, who knows. But the unspeakable POS in the WH - oh, soory, he's on vacation and enjoying eating cake at fundraisers - has a better use for these thousands of Guards with families in the devastated areas - being cannon fodder in his immoral war of choice on the other side of the world. Now THEY are the ones feeling frantic fear about their people, quite the reverse of the usual. I can't begin to imagine how those Guards in Iraq with family in MS, LA and AL are coping with the uncerainty, the images of devastation, the ridiculous chirpy "we dodged the bullet" reporters.

Notice the pictures of the two women carrying food from a destroyed convenience store and the heartless commits about them being looters. I will tell you one thing, I bet these Freepers would take food from that store to feed their families. It is one thing to "steal" food for your family in a situation like this and another to walk off with a TV set. If I where in that situation and did not have a supply of food set in I know I would go into that store to get food for my family. There is not one person who would not go to extremes to protect their families, even if it met "stealing" food to help in their survival. I pray that these bastards never find themselves in that situation. The food in that store is more than likely a total write off. Let it go to feeding the hungry.

If the govt (especially here in TX) doesn't want an educated workforce that makes a decent living, there is going to be a need for more sec 8 housing.

88. Taxpayers demand crappy constructions!
Tired of efficiency and quality control in state projects, taxpayers have demanded that their money be wasted on structures that will need to be redone in six months. "We are sick of getting what we pay for!" a spokesman for a tax reform group said. Tenants of public housing agree. "Where are the rats and drug dealers?" an Iraqi war widow and mother of three demanded. Another tenant inquired ruefully, "THIS was made by the lowest bidder?!" as he inspected the heat efficient windows and steel construction.

89. As a survivor of many hurricanes...
#1 - what pisses me off is not when someone gets their goods replaced by FEMA when they lost them and can't afford insurance. It is when people with $400,000 vacation homes get them rebuilt ON THE BEACH in areas that are LIKELY to get them destroyed again with another good storm. They cannot get insurance, no one will insure them, but they rebuild them anyway - with FEMA money. So they can vacation in the manner they are accustomed to.

#2 - after Hugo - in St. Thomas, I went down to Benetton, where I worked part-time, to help clean up. I had to walk, the roads were mostly blocked (a long way down the mountain!) When I got there, people were looting - not just taking necessities -but TRYING THINGS ON and asking people's opinion about size and color. They were SHOPPING, LEISURELY. I just stood there with my mouth open - until a woman said to me, "if you work here, you better go home - there's nothing but trouble here for you." I also saw a local walking up the mountain wearing a fur coat. What a person needs with a fur coat in St. Thomas I don't know. The groceries were the most protected thing on the island (and the laundromat - it was a week before they let people in that weren't family). If a person is looting food after a natural disaster - good for them - their family comes first - if they are looting goods not necessary for survival - they are right up there with price-gougers in my book. But they shouldn't be "extra" punished - let it fit the crime, as always.

#3 - emergencies bring out the best and the worst in people. I truly believe that there is enough selflessness shown in this world to counteract the selfishness.

#4 - Freepers are mean-spirited assholes.

Sorry kiddo, maybe next time. Maybe next time the natural disaster will know better and destroy only the poor leaving your sanitized little suburban abode safe and sound for your SUV, guns, tasteful berber carpet, plasma tv, Toby Keith Cd's, and tiny American flag collection so you can procreate in the lifeless, boring, passionless manner you've grown accustomed to.

In all seriousness, "honey," I hope to God you never have to go through anything as devastating as what those people in NO are going through now. I hope you never wonder where your next meal is coming from, if you have a home to go home to, or how you're going to get diapers for your baby. See, that might mean you'd have to adjust your narrow minded worldview ever so slightly, and that would be hard work--I know how much you freep types hate that!

Seems like a lot of these social welfare critics are on the dole themselves in one way or another. A friend of mine gets disability from the VA every month for an auto accident he suffered leaving the base for the weekend. That would not be covered by worker's comp if he was a civilian. Plus the Feds paid his tuition and all the medical expenses resulting from the crash. He is the first one to bitch about the welfare state.

1) retired from the Navy after 20 years, and therefore eligible for a Navy pension

2) Was still in her early forties and so went to work for a private corporation that gave her a corporate pension AND Social Security.

So here she was, triple dipping in her retirement and absolutely vicious about "poor people on welfare."

She was well-connected in the California Republican Party, and after Reagan was elected, she called my mother and said gleefully, "We're gonna fix those welfare cheats. Are they ever going to holler."

Nice person, huh? My mother was executor of her aunt's estate. (The aunt was a dear, not so her hardcore Republican niece.)

99. And these "freepers" are supposed to be "God's People"?
I spent a few years of my childhood in public housing after our (Republican) father deserted us. FYI Mr. Freeper, my mother worked full time in a factory but couldn't afford normal housing on the slave wages she received. We didn't have a big screen TV but a 15 year-old 19" and no cable. I remember wearing a pair of shoes for so long that my big toes started growing out the holes in the end. I remember hearing my mother crying at night when she thought we were asleep because she couldn't afford new shoes for us. We drove a junker and canned tuna was a staple. Oh yeah, there was no carpeting on the floors, just some worn-out linoleum. But you know what? I remember feeling happily surprised that my country cared about me and my family enough to help us through those hard times. My deep love for my country started in that ghetto because I felt my fellow Americans cared. Thank God I never heard this kind of mean-spirited rhetoric or I may have formed a whole different attitude during that time and my not have turned out to be the productive and successful person I am now.

I have known people who went on Welfare for 2 months, and that helped them bounce back... Thats what Welfare is for, people who have come upon hard times like your mother who WAS working. Sure you hear about the women who have never had a job who have been on Welfare since adulthood, but how dare ANYONE assume that all people on government assistance are like that.

I, in particular, think that many poor people are disadvantaged and the crock the freepers spew about "your bootstraps" and "ownership society" is literally impossible for many people to even fathom.

127. If these women were white they would not be
called looters. Instead the media would say they are doing the best they can in a horrible situation. There would be an NBC news story about how a brave (white) woman waded through polluted water to get the only available food for her (white, blonde haired blue eyed "all American") infant. The double standard infuriates me!

Surely there is looting in Metarie (home of David Duke of KKK infamy). We don't hear about it because Metarie is white and a suburb.

What would happen to that food anyway? It'd be thrown away. Better that it can FEED someone than to be pitched.

104. Freeper?
I am new to this, so my naive question is why are the right-wingers called freepers? Because of the march to freedom bs...

It is always good to know what the 'American Taliban' is thinking. If I can stomach it I will watch the O'Reilly spin factor, faux news, & sometimes listen on the radio to Neil Boortz & 'The baby jesus' - gag

116. I will never understand how they reconcile their hate ...
and total lack of compassion for those less fortunate, with the preachings of Jesus.

Has anyone ever heard an explanation?

128. The explanation is hypocrasy
When someone is seriously lacking in a virtuous trait (like compassion) they sometimes try to make up for it by praising an idol that symbolizes that trait (like Jesus) and then putting down anyone who doesn't do the same.

117. Will the New York Times cover that kind of comment from Free republic
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 06:33 PM by Kurovski
the way they covered a DUer's tinfoil hat post about The Asian Tsunami?

Anyone care to send it to the New York Times? I'm sure there will be more posts of similar tone to send to "The Gray Lady".

I don't have the stomach for the research.

What is it with Right-Wingers and their desire to attack and destroy those with the least power? I can only think of what Jesus said about what our treatment of "the least amoung us" reveals about our character, our spirit and humanity.

119. This is Right-Wing (Non)Thinking At It's Finest
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 08:17 PM by littleraf
The people of the 9th ward had to seek shelter in the Superdome precisely because they DON'T have cars, and many of the people didn't know that Katrina was coming their way beacuse they don't have a TV at all, much less a bigscreen. But I suppose conservatives think that poverty is only a figment of Democrats' imaginations. Seeing as how the levees have broken and both Lake Ponchtratrain and the Mississippi are now flooding the whole city of New Orleans everyone's homes (government built or not) will soon be underwater. Wonder if this redneck sack of shit (or the other Freepers) will be still be making jokes then? Probably so, these people have no decency.

135. Police looted too...
Policeman in New Orleans broke into Home Depot to get supplies! This shows you have really desparate the situation really is. This is beyond the comprehension of the so-called, " true-patriot, Christian" Bush supporters.

Best regards,
-from a REAL Christian

133. Never Stops Amazing Me
I know that my title has been used before, but it is my true feeling. It never ceases to amaze me how mean and horrible the Freepers are. You would think with all the damage done they would not be asking for more, but here they are asking for more damage. It just surprises and saddens me that they do not have any saddness or compassion for anyone at any time. I would think they would be sad that people have lost their homes and other things. Instead they are worried about cadillacs that these people never had. It is sad the the Freepers will not pick up a book and realize that Reagan was lying when he talked about welfare queens and cadillacs. Finally, it is somewhat ironic that the man(Reagan) who made such a big fuss about welfare queens driving cadillacs was a welfare queens being driven in a limo who made American pay for his $350,000 apartment.

134. Bush sets the tone.
As an African-American, it saddens me to see poor black folks looting in the streets. But the reality is that the comments by the so-called "true patriots" and "born-Again Christians" are to be expected. No one should be shocked. This bigotry against black folks and poor black folks in particular is as American as apple pie and baseball. And we have president running the country who sets the tone for this kind of nonsense.

The other reality and irony is that the police in New Orleans were probably going to have to resort to openning the store fronts anyway to distribute food and diapers anyway. The silly posters never stop to think that not only are the people foolish and desparate but the food would spoil anyway.

139. True.
Racism is no where near done with in America. It hides underground, disguises and lies about itself, and then openly shows its ugly, smirking face at times such as this.

Times when one would think blind hatred would be dissolved by the common bond of humanity.

138. Also, it's not like there was anyone there to uh, take their money
Check them through. So they could actually pay. I mean, they're not stealing televisions, people, they're stealing FOOD. So they can eat. Not only that, everything's insured. And by the time the store owners get back, everything's going to be spoiled or ruined.

I swear to God, if I see one more fat black person "looting" on my television screen, I'm going to hurl something. Possibly my dinner. No poor white people in that part of Louisiana huh? That's not what I saw last time I was down there. Oh, but they're "finding" not looting.

Racial politics rears it's ugly head once again.
