of Cindy
We estimate there were between 3,000 and 5,000 troop loving people the three different camps Saturday.
It was an eventful day and was hotter than hell, as the sun blared down to drain us. We were lifted with each of the full 8 charter buses that arrived throughout the afternoon.
Cindy dropped what she was doing to greet, welcome and hug each busload of troop loving people as they exited the bus. The look on their faces was one of overwhelming disbelief. They had arrived to the greatest place on earth that day, Camp Casey II and were greeted by a cheering crowd and straight into the loving arms of the woman they all had come to see. We couldn’t hold back the tears.
As the day progressed Cindy did walk around. (Although this was no easy task as for the press hounds were tripping over themselves and others to mob her)
Anyone and everyone who wanted to speak with her and have their picture taken with her were greeted with a smile and a patient heart. Those that spoke to her and got hugs.
My impression of Cindy is she is an incredible determined woman. Very loving, generous and kind. She has sacrificed not only her son. But, herself as well.
The camp was very active, there was plenty of water, food and ice, all which was provided by donations. As the constant calls for volunteers went out. People would scramble to oblige.
The volunteers had more work then I’m sure they were able to handle, what an incredible job they did. They were given jobs that no sane person would want. They were called to pick up trash, prepare food, pass out water, spray people with a water mist, provide medical attention, drive shuttles, direct traffic, protect people from traffic, unload supplies, stock ice chests, put up crosses, hang banners, erect tents and the list just go on and on, all in 100 plus
degrees of extreme heat. It was an incredible display of support and love for Cindy.
We were able to meet so many more DUer’s while we were there this weekend. Everyone was great. It felt like family. Dancing Bear escorted us to our shuttle on Saturday. We again Wolverine, (who shuttled us several times) she was so exciting to be around, and so happy to be a part of the event.
We met Aquarius, VelmaD, Texasthoughtcriminal, Vincardog, AnneD and several others.
Much More
