What a W/E! Camp Casey II was overflowing with supporters <PICS>
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 01:13 AM by LiberalUprising
of Cindy

We estimate there were between 3,000 and 5,000 troop loving people the three different camps Saturday.

It was an eventful day and was hotter than hell, as the sun blared down to drain us. We were lifted with each of the full 8 charter buses that arrived throughout the afternoon.

Cindy dropped what she was doing to greet, welcome and hug each busload of troop loving people as they exited the bus. The look on their faces was one of overwhelming disbelief. They had arrived to the greatest place on earth that day, Camp Casey II and were greeted by a cheering crowd and straight into the loving arms of the woman they all had come to see. We couldn’t hold back the tears.

As the day progressed Cindy did walk around. (Although this was no easy task as for the press hounds were tripping over themselves and others to mob her)
Anyone and everyone who wanted to speak with her and have their picture taken with her were greeted with a smile and a patient heart. Those that spoke to her and got hugs.

My impression of Cindy is she is an incredible determined woman. Very loving, generous and kind. She has sacrificed not only her son. But, herself as well.
The camp was very active, there was plenty of water, food and ice, all which was provided by donations. As the constant calls for volunteers went out. People would scramble to oblige.

The volunteers had more work then I’m sure they were able to handle, what an incredible job they did. They were given jobs that no sane person would want. They were called to pick up trash, prepare food, pass out water, spray people with a water mist, provide medical attention, drive shuttles, direct traffic, protect people from traffic, unload supplies, stock ice chests, put up crosses, hang banners, erect tents and the list just go on and on, all in 100 plus
degrees of extreme heat. It was an incredible display of support and love for Cindy.

We were able to meet so many more DUer’s while we were there this weekend. Everyone was great. It felt like family. Dancing Bear escorted us to our shuttle on Saturday. We again Wolverine, (who shuttled us several times) she was so exciting to be around, and so happy to be a part of the event.

We met Aquarius, VelmaD, Texasthoughtcriminal, Vincardog, AnneD and several others.

9. big kick for the story and pictures
Thanks LiberalUprising! I was shocked too when we were greeting that San Antonio bus, that Cindy was right there giving everyone a big hug as
they walked through the line. What a treat, what a gracious woman!

I had a fabulous time Saturday.

10. Wonderful pictures! Wonderful report! That crowd at C-II looks awesome!
And I'm so touched by Cindy greeting everyone personally. What an amazing lady!

The pix of the bucket brigade handing down the ice bags speaks to me, too. Remember that scene in the movie "Witness," where all the Amish men are crawling all over the skeleton of the new barn they are erecting for one of the families, each doing his part--the communal effort making it an easy and efficient task. That is so lacking in our national consciousness, right now, because of the divisiveness and ugly hate-mongering of the Bush Cartel. Another scene: where the boy rings the porch bell, and all the farmers drop what they're doing and come running across the fields to help their neighbor, and, by their mere presence--their witness--and with no violence whatsoever, just their numbers!, prevent a murder.

Those two scenes are among the very few movie scenes that have ever made me cry. I was crying for my country--for the damage that has been done to our sense of common purpose, and our desire to do good in the world.

Reborn, before our very eyes, in Crawford, Texas! A country reborn. Our goodness and generosity, and sense of justice and equality, reborn. The goodness never was gone--just waiting to be tapped. Longing for it.

:hi: Glad to hear you enjoyed the rides! I was really happy they let me take y'all by Camp 1 on Sunday....later on in the day they told us not to go by there because of the freeper parade. I had lots of folks who wanted to go by there on the way to Camp 2, but I couldn't take 'em. :(

It was really nice to see y'all again so soon after last week & I hope to meet up with you again in DC!! :)

18. Hi W DG
Did ya get a chance to take any pics, with all that driving?

Thank's for the ride, hope it didn't cost ya your job ;-)

It was really great seeing you again, don't know if we'll make DC, have to see how things go with work. It's been extremely slow for us the past couple years.

thanks chimpy!

We would really love to be there and will come if we can swing it.

Keep in touch
