Gulfport MS, Ground Zero Video
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 01:49 AM by tkmorris
http://www.hurricanelivenet.com/aftermath.wmv

This video was made by Mark Sudduth and Mike Watkins. It shows the aftermath of Katrina in Gulfport's downtown area. Beware, it's about 14.5 mb, but it is a must see I believe. Not in a good way, but it needs to be seen.

7. is First Baptist on E 2nd St?
I'm trying to get my bearings - worrying about the area near E Pass Road and Washington Ave, southeast of the airport ... east of this video, apparently

The buildings in this video look like they were blasted open and washed out of all their contents. It's horrifying.

14. Anyone know...
Anything about Long Beach, which is right in between Gulfport and Pass Christian?

I used to visit there frequently and still know some people that
live(d) right at marcie Lane and Beach Boulevard in the houses about 150 yards from the beach?

20. Any info onn Gautier, MS (next to Pascagoula)? Friend live 6 blocks
from the Gulf. They have lived there forever. Their son rode out Ivan, and I fear he may have tried the same this time. From what I can see on Google Earth, their house ust have been swept away.

And that was a remarkable video.

(a bit off topic)

Is Google Earth real time? I thought the photos they used were up to 3 years old.

23. Don't mean to sound flip, but it could have been worse
Just take a deep breath and say a prayer or give a sigh of relief that there weren't any bodies mixed in with all that wreckage. I know there were fatalities, but nothing like there could have been if there hadn't been the warning and evacuation.

27. That church withstood Camille. It wasn't cheaply constructed.
I was a member there until I moved away from the Gulf Coast. That it is destroyed now, by a hurricane whose eye was further away than Camille's was is a testimony to the power of this storm.

29. I was half joking, but half not.
"It wasn't cheaply constructed..." Well it depends on what you compare it too.

It may not have been cheaply constructed compared to other Baptist Churches of that type, but compared to other Churches on the Gulf Coast, a very hurricane prone area, it was.

For instance, the Catholic Church in the French Quarter, which I think was the same distance, if not closer, is said to have received no damage.

That Church looks like it's the same size and was built in the exact same way (and is the same Model) as The United Methodists just built here in the North Atlanta Metro area, which is fine construction for an area 200 to 300 or more miles from the Southern Coast, but if a Church going to build a church building in a Hurricane prone area, they need to build it like they expect it to last 1000 years. The standard model just doesn't cut it in that area.

that I used to live right across the highway from the beach in Gulfport in 1989, I thank heavens that I don't live there anymore.
