4. I hate when you say this. But we have seen all the horrible things
come and go. And Bush is still there.
Today in the Senate, when Byrd could not get his amendment to take a second look into the 16b part of the recontruction money that he thought was outragious, I was really upset. I cannot believe it! The repugs didn't even bother to address Byrd's questions about who is fleecing Americans with the Iraq recontruction.
Barf!

71. A patriot who served his country in time of war and peace.
The gentleman is retired now, but keeps in touch with his friends who still are in the government service. His son, a veteran of the US Army, has been helping his Republican father learn more about the real Bush "administration."

Many on DU call the Bushes The Bush Family Evil Empire, or BFEE. To me they seem more like the public stooges for a global criminal conspiracy, the likes of which not even Ian Fleming dared imagine, for they involve the takeover, corruption and near-destruction of the United States government.

Thanks to people in the civil and uniformed services, like Matcom's dad (and quite a large number who post here on DU), we still have the Constitution. And that's how we ALL can save our nation.

BTW: A hearty welcome to DU, oregonjen! Thanks also for sending us in Motown Joey Harrington. Like matcom and his family, he's the Real Deal!

7. The smirk finally got smacked.
I never thought it would happen. But it's true. Bush may survive but the smirk will be gone. He's really screwed. He either finds someone and touchs off a further who knew what or he doesn't and is accused of harboring a traitor. I think it's beginning to sink in to the administration what a hellish trap they set for themselves.

15. Some of you aren't paying attention...
...The mainstream media has already gone on to other things. Polls (like the WP) say that people want this thing investigated...but don't think Bush* had anything to do with it.

- The media HAS to report it...but that doesn't mean it's going to hurt Bush* in any way. He certainly won't lose any votes because of it.

- It's great that some of the Bushies may have to fall on their swords...but it's just silly to say Bush* will suffer because of it. The Bush* monster lives on.

74. For hell sakes...not the 'prozac' retort...
..that always seems to come about when you can't support your argument. You might want to read that Washington post poll again: no one seems to think BUSH* was involved in any way.

- Bringing down a Bush* lacky means absolutely nothing. The Bush* regime stays in place and the Bush* lacky is replaced with another lacky.

- Big deal...so the Bush* WH gets some 'bad press' for a week or so. If this 'scandal' can't be directly connected to George* then things go on as before.

80. Perhaps it's because your 'preemptive' parade is self-deluding?
Edited on Wed Oct-01-03 09:17 PM by Q
- Celebrate all you want...but in a couple weeks we'll see the same whining we've heard after the dozens of scandals that went nowhere over the last three years.

- The Bushies can get away with anything if they can get away with hiding Reagan and Poppy Bush's presidential papers and national energy policy...covering up their DIRECT connections to Enron, Ken Lay, bin Laden and Saudi Royal Families...obstructing investigations into 9-11 and their blatant lies about WMD and Iraq.

- You don't see a PATTERN here? I've seen no evidence that this 'scandal' will be any different. Rove or some other stooge will fall on their swords and that will be the end of it. Bush* will go on to break records in collecting campaign cash and the American media won't TOUCH any scandal that might hurt his chances to keep the corporate WH in operation after 2004.

- Put your parade on hold.

11. Tell your dad and his CIA cronies maybe now they'll understand why it's
not good to rig the press.

Love ya buddy, but your dad has to get the CIA made this possible by giving Nxon's dirty tricksters the idea that controlling the press was a good thing...they did it on the right and the left from the 50's trhough the 70's and continuing.

Had there been REAL investigative reporting in America, this would not have happened to them but there isn't.

They can't use the cost excuse like they do for overseas reporting...this is Washington DC.

I have great respect for the CIA and cringe at some of the moronic statements made about them here at DU.

Like all aspects of law enforcement, there is a bright side and a dark side to the CIA.

The NSA has 40,000 employees. Anyone who thinks that every single one of them loves Bush is a one-dimensional thinker. That's not how it works.

Be that as it may, for all the money they suck up and all the freedoms they VIOLATE when not kept in check, there is NOT ONE single episode (catastrophic) that has happened in america that they have averted. Not North Korea (in the 50's), not any of the Viet Cong offensives, not the first or second WTC bombings, not the bombings of the barracks in Lebanon, I could go on and on.

But their work at least in the 50's, 60's and 70's at LEAST also kept the far RIGHT as in check as it kept the FAR left.

Not so anymore.

Hopefully, they got the fucking memo now.

20. I smelled the "blood" two months ago, and have been chilling a..
nice bottle of French bubbly to celebrate with (at the right moment) since. That moment approaches. As I predicted in my post stating "The Cabal's" demise two months ago, Bush will lose by 20% to 30%. In the meantime, it will be sooooooooo nice to watch them all self-destruct.

We must take care though. There are a number of Dems who, through their alliances with AIPAC/JDL/JINSA, support Israel's fascist Likud, and (most importantly) their best friends here ...PNAC. Starting tomorrow, I am going to call all DEM Congressional members, and, presidential candidates, and demand they stop supporting PNAC, either directly, or indirectly, through their allies!! It won't do us much good to take out the people at the front door (Cheney, Libby, Perle, et al), if those using the back are free to continue to subvert our government, ......vis-a-vis our own goddamn Party!!

22. I'm cautiously euphoric
It could "go away" but it'll always stink. This is not a blow job. It's not even Iran/Contra. As bad as that was the wrongdoing was a bit abstract in the minds of people who don't know Nicaraqua from El Salvador let alone the significance of going around Congress the way that they did, and furthermore don't care. And most of all, things suck in the country. That makes things look different. That means there was a crack in the armor already. Anyway, Watergate went away, but when it came back, it came back with a vengence.

The actions of this admin has pissed off ALOT of people that started out on theor side. Not only the CIA, who has many good reasons, but the press has been treated with disdain and the military has been shit upon as well. Hell, even the SCOTUS came out with two decisions against the wishes of the neo-cons in their previous session, they want their pound of flesh too, i bet.

They have all been keeping a secret scorecard just waiting for an opening, the slightest crack in the veneer of "honor and integrity" and for the time when public opinion was at a point where the sheeples might listen.

The dripping has turned into a steady flow, soon to burst into a flood, IMHO.

35. This may bring Bushco down but
It may serve to distract from Bushco's far more serious crimes. We will see if they let him off with this and leave everything else under the rug.

65. Let's see that the Plame Affair gets LEVERAGED...
... to expose the rest of the criminality — a Bushy trail leading directly back to the murder of President Kennedy in Dallas almost 40 years ago.

Today, it's pretty clear Cheney-Bush-Rove compromised the national security of the United States for political ends — intimidation of whistleblowers in the civil, uniformed, and intelligence services. It's likely even the average GOPartisan, Freeper and brainwashed TV preacher-watcher can understand and remember that.

So, when it comes to the Bush Organized Crime Family, Treason IS a good start, DU Friend Sterling. Let's see these traitors get the what's for!

Now's the time! Let's get the noisemakers going. Help our friends in the FBI, CIA, NSA, NRO, USA, USN, USMC, USAF, USCG, DIA, and everyplace else good people know the TRUTH about the cabal get the word out. It's why the Founding Fathers put in the First Amendment and guaranteed a Free Press — the only BUSINESS important enough to be mentioned in the Constitution.

We can't stop now. Bushler still has the button.

52. Your really overdoing it here...
What kind of nonsense is this? The CIA are the heroic good guys out to preserve American democracy? The CIA, or "the agency" as I noticed your calling it, is waging war against the PNAC Bush administration?

Come on. I am just not buying it.

Have you created some sort of fantasy world for yourself? Everytime another Bush scandal comes along the predictable "Bush is done", "Bush is finished", "Bush is toast" threads start piling up and far too many people are suckered into believing that this is really the end of the line for Jr.

Then ofcourse, a week or two later, the dissappointment and anger sets in all over the forum as the scandal drops off the media radar screen having been replaced by shark attacks, a barrel of insecticide found in a barn in Tikrit or some other useless inane silly story.

"what does this do? THIS opens up our 'free press'... FINALLY"

It is absolutely clear to me, by reading this one sentence of yours, that you don't understand the American media at all. This will not "open up" the US press anymore than Enron did. This story was all but dumped in their laps weeks ago and they didn't bother with it until the Justice department opened a preliminary investigation.

What is more likely to happen is that after a week or two of banging on Bush for this, the Republicans will complain about "liberal bais" in the press and the media will attempt to be even handed by either building up Bush again, or attacking some Democrat somewhere. Infact, that Democrat will probably be Davis if he loses next week. Arnold will be all the rage if that happens, the Wilson affair will be yesterdays news.

"this is a SCANDAL! Pure and Simple."

Only if it is fed constantly, and I do mean constantly. If no new revelations come out on nearly a daily basis - the media will move on.

"Heads WILL roll, and the PRESS will 'press on'"

Oy. Oh dear lord. The press will "press on"? LOL

"oh BABY!!! LIFE IS GONNA BE GOOD FOR THE NEXT YEAR STORM TROOPERS!!"

No Matcom, life is good for this minute. The media is cyclic. It will not always be after Bush. Today Bush is getting bad press, maybe that will continue for awhile - but the pendulum will swing back against us. The key to winning is to work for and hope Bush has more bad days than us. I am not confident that this will be the case.

Lastly, the American national security establishment is very right wing and Republican oriented. The very notion that the CIA is after Bush and his PNAC buddies is absolutely laughable to me. It is obvious that SOME in the CIA don't like Bush, but I have no doubt that most do. Republicans almost ALWAYS give the armed forces and intelligence services LOTS of money, where Democrats have quite often cut those same budgets. Who do you think the security establishments prefer? Do you think the CIA would risk losing the Republican gravy train? I don't.

"Folks, I Don't SMELL Blood..... I Now TASTE IT!!"

I know your having fun. And we've had some dark days and should enjoy the good ones, but I really think your exaggerating badly. Somehow I think that taste won't be so good a couple weeks from now.

It worries me that so many people underestimate just how difficult it is going to be to defeat Bush. Scandals happen to White Houses. This won't be the last. I just hope people get a grip and understand that the game is nowhere near over and the good days won't last forever. Posts like yours leave the impression that Bush is a wounded duck who'll be easy to pick off come election day. Nothing could be further from the truth.

57. Here a line from Jim Lobe...
To say that there's blood in the water and the sharks are circling around the Bush administration's Iraq policy would be understatement at this point.

It's more like a blood bank that's been dropped into the water, the sharks have taken the first bites, and Amazonian piranhas are clamoring for visas on an expedited basis.

77. Hey! What is this RUMSFELD scandal??? From your link:
"Added to these concerns is the lack of transparency, a potential new scandal that surfaced this week when a Florida newspaper reported that Rumsfeld's office had asked the Special Operations Command in Tampa to "park" US$40 million for eventual use by the secretary. The diversion, which was disclosed by a "whistleblower" in the Pentagon, was never reported to Congress and is now being investigated by an internal auditor. The Washington Post on Tuesday called the investigation "explosive", in major part because lawmakers have long complained that Rumsfeld has kept them in the dark on many issues."

Is is CHRISTMAS? All of these presents for ME, all in one WEEK?

THANK YOU SANTA!

I will take your word for it.

Lets see what happens.

I will be plenty happy to admit I'm wrong if the media is still talking about this 1-2 weeks from now.

Thanks for the reply.

64. Just a couple of principled Republicans need to cross the aisle
...and then there will be enough votes for an independent counsel.

We should be pressuring Republicans to stand up for law and order like they claim to.

Remember the old line "It's not about the sex - it's about the perjury."

Well it's even worse now: "It's not about the threat to national security - it's about the treason."

66. Dude, this is INSANE! I can't believe what I'm seeing on the news tonight!
The Repubs are totally cornered! They trapped like rats in a box! They can't deny how incredibly serious this is, they've all said a special counsel might be needed, but give the DOJ time first. They've mentioned the apparent lack of urgency in the WH and that they haven't even bothered questioning their own staff...I'm floored!

78. And that gives Wilson the righteous position in the public's mind
Anyone can understand his position - defending his WIFE, who was ATTACKED to get at him. It's like the Wild West.

The WH position is morally indefensible. They can't win this one in the public's mind. No way.

72. How the WH is parsing this
They first countered this serious charge by ridiculing it, saying that there was no reason to believe that Plame was anything other than a glorified secretary, and after all, she didn't get killed, so what's the big deal.

They they attempted to politicize it -- to cast aspersions on Wilson's career, and his recent change of allegence to Sen Kerry, and that it is merely hate speech to hurt this "popular president."

But then Scotty McClelland said over and over and over and over again -- let' get this straight -- the *crime* is *deliberately* leaking classified information.

Sounds like they are going to try and run the "stupid" defence.

Burn baby burn
