CNN reports 80% of NOLA under water (repeat earlier report from Nagin?)

On CNN now - - Mayor Nagin said on an earlier, local interview that he believed 80% of NOLA was under water. It's not clear whether they're just repeating Nagin's statement or confirming it.

the interview with the mayor about an hour ago as a citizen report. Maybe they watched it. Geez.

5. I watched the interview and then went to watch CNN.

...at about the time they heard about the lake pouring into Orleans through the broken levy from the hospital VP. It then took them about 2 hours to confirm that detail twice. And they are still saying the levy "may have" broken as though it is some sort of hypothetical theory.

Looks like they did watch that interview. An additional detail they just reported were that the double-span bridge was destroyed, using almost the exact same phrase as was in the mayor's interview along with dozens of other pieces of bad news CNN has yet to mention.

I certainly hope they didn't watch the video wasn't based on your tip, because if they don't have people on their payroll cruising the blogs and web and local TV and radio to find these things, that's just plain dereliction on their part. I can understand them wanting to confirm from multiple sources but this is ridiculous.

Hundreds of people are in grave danger of drowning in their attics about now. I just hope they can manage to break through the roof and climb out. And that they have enough roof to make it until morning because right now rescue operations are all but called off until sunrise.

And FOX is hardly reporting on NO at all. Both stations are warning people still in the path of the storm to watch out for flooding in central and even northern states, but to their credit while FOX is concentrating on chasing the storm to see if they can get any more shots of flying garbage cans, and talking about the oil and economic inpact way more often than is seemly, CNN at least stayed behind to get the story of the suffering of NO residents out.

6. If CNN had 1 intern watching WWL in New Orleans on the 'Net

They would have heard about the levee breach at 17th street and the twin spans of I-10 going to Slidell being totally destroyed.

The mayor reported this at around 11PM CST.
