Hooray for the student right
By Randi Powell | August 30, 2005

DURING THE 1980s, Ronald Reagan ushered in a new era of American conservatism that few can forget. But I don't remember one thing about it. Honestly, the first president who actually meant anything to me, besides being a fact in a book, was Bill Clinton. Like most of today's college students who were born during the Reagan administration, I grew up with the liberalism of the 1990s. So it only makes sense that those liberal values and ideas are considered ''normal" for most of my generation.

But with the rightward political tone of the country, many young conservatives finally feel safe to come out of the closet. And as students flock to campuses around Boston for a new year, they are coming out in droves.

Many collegians, both liberal and conservative, have sat through lectures where professors beat the drum of liberalism. As a college student who considers herself liberal, I've even noticed that some professors practice indoctrination instead of scholarship. With left-wing professors monopolizing many university campuses and with tenure making them a stationary face in the classroom, the changing student body has had little variety to choose from and ultimately nowhere to go.

1. don't look now Randi
but your ignorance is showing....

if anyone thinks the 90's were liberal - they have no concept of liberalism.

the 90's were more MODERATE but they damn sure weren't liberal!

(Thanks to the Reagan Revolution which was the beginning of the end of democracy!)

4. If I didn't know any better, I'd swear most of Sandler's characters
are based on George W. Bush.

6. So education is the drum of liberalism?
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 08:26 AM by FreedomAngel82
Oh good grief. :eyes: Sorry hon but I'd rather have a teacher who educates me for the real world then dumb me down. And how does this person know their taecher is a liberal? How do they not know they're a conservative? I'm getting so tired of this crap. I always thank God for how I grew up in the Clinton era. I had a great education and I have Bill Clinton and my teachers to thank for that.

9. I don't give a rat's ass whether a teacher is conservative or liberal
so long as they teach well.

How about a teaching bias?

10. When I first became politically aware in the '90's
I was an ubermoderate Clinton-crat. Blame Dubya for pushing me into the arms of liberalism.

15. Thank God I grew up in the 60's....
I knew when Raygun was elected that nothing good was going to come of it although the "instant gratification" of lower percentage rates felt good. History will prove this. It's already starting.

My son who grew up in the 80's thinks Raygun is the end and be all of life on this planet. How the hell did he come from MY loins?
