1. Do you get the impression that there has been an incredible amount
of underreporting from the media?

3. The day after Andrew, the news was "very little damage"...
It will be weeks, or months before the full story is know...

4. When it didn't turn out to be the exact nightmare-scenario they
envisioned, they moved on.

Though anybody who listened to the scientists and engineers could have told them that the real danger was from post-storm flooding.

5. On the one hand, they don't want to report anything
that hasn't been confirmed... but what I want to know is, why aren't they reporting from Slidell? One of the worst hit areas from what I can tell at the WWLTV weather boards.

6. I think the cause of most of the lack of reporting is the simple fact
that no one can get to the worst hit areas, not reporters, not residents, not anyone. This week will bring many uknowns and new stories, and I hope they aren't as bad as I think they will be...

9. Sanitizing -- major sanitizing
Which is a shame, because look at the outpouring of support and MONEY and even volunteers after the tsunami, with the horror better covered than we're getting on cable news. If the people of the U.S. and world were better informed about the needs, there would be a similar outpouring of help.

8. Corporate Media Is Patting Itself On The Back
Thank goodness to WDSU and WWL Radio & TV for their excellent coverage.

I remember visiting New Orleans in 1964...was the WDSU studios in the French Quarter...at that time there was a hurricane approaching as we were departing. How ironic.

The corporate media has cut corners and expenses in the past decade...putting the empahsis on personality rather than honest journalism. They need to rush in the Anderson Coopers and Miles Mindbenders and Brian Williams and others to "make it a story"...as opposed to reporting the events as they play out.

I got so tired of hearing Mrs. Limbaugh the other day marveling at "all this technology" they used to show the same siding getting blown around or had their goofy correspondant get out of the truck or dry hotel to show us it rains and gets windy during a hurricane...and how brave they are. I got more detail from the various cams and eyewitness reports from the local stations in 10 minutes than I got from CNNServative all day.

As always, now that the storm is over, the high profile/big money talking heads now move on to the next circus. Maybe it'll be another storm, or to Aurba or looking for other Dirty Laundry.

My gratitude to the fine folks at the local New Orleans, Mobile, Jackson, Biloxi and other radio & TV stations that stood by their posts and provided the best service...true public service.

I was glad to hear WWL's 50,000 watts and Bob Del Giorno throughout most the storm...it gave a human voice to a very tragic situation.
