Shouldn't they try to start evacuating people
out of the superdome to the outside area? If they're bringing in more that are being rescued they should be moving people from the superdome. It will make room as well as take them out of danger in case the levee doesn't hold.

4. That was ME.. I still think it's a good idea
:)

Trying to do THREE things at once (rescue, cleanup & repair)with the same people is NUTS!and all of it in a place without a safe infrastructure..(water,sewer,power all compromised)

5. on a serious level
Crawford sucks as a refugee location for people from the mouth of the Mississippi. Actually, just sucks as a refugee location, period. But Texas does have a lot of open land where utilities can be put in quickly and efficiently. Mobile home communities could be set up near metropolitan areas where there is some chance that the refugees could find employment. Texas already has significant numbers of refugees, and welcomes them, and we don't want them to leave until it is safe for them to. But that may be weeks or months.

In the meantime, people have to go on living. Finding employment for the displaced is going to be the big hurdle. The people living in motels can't keep that up without a job. Thousands of people in LA are living in their cars, and obviously can't keep that up. They need an income and a home.

6. East Texas was my thought.. Crawford would be the worst
place for these people.. There has to be someplace in E Texas that could handle a temporary refuge for these displaced people.. The Superdome is NOT a solution.and where else is there in NO or the area? It ALL was damaged.

They cannot live on the streets on handouts from the red Cross for a month or more..they will be in the way, and they will be exposed to toxins ..

2. Last night mayor Nagin gave an interview
And said their first priority was to find and rescue folks who were stranded in flooded areas (people who were trapped in trees and on top of houses etc, people in emergency shelters that have flooded or collapsed), and they were going to use the Super dome as a staging area to bring those folks to.

He said they were also dealing with trying to keep the folks in the Super dome from getting overheated, and let them get some fresh air yesterday.

They will eventually take people out of the Super dome, but they have more urgent priorities first.

3. The people in the dome are quite uncomfortable...
But not in imminent danger of death.
