Disappointment in one military mom...
In our local paper (I don't have the link) a military mom with a son headed to Iraq was quoted along the lines of saying how Cindy Sheehan was not memorializing her son's life and was instead disgracing it.

When people say things like this about another parent's actions it makes me angry. How can one parent speak for another or attack another parent for such a thing?

I believe that any parent should be able to say whatever they want, but attribute it toward their own kid or own behavior and not that of other parents who find a different way to grieve.

I certainly hope her child comes back whole and safe, but her thoughts might be different if she were a Gold Star Mom.

1. Well the Right Wing has tried to recast this issue
And had some success. The argument runs like this.

Cindy Sheehan says her son died for no reason.

That means she thinks my son died (or is willing to die) for no reason.

My son didn't die for no reason! He died to protect America!

It's an emotional argument (obviously) but it could be effective with some I'm sure.

3. The anti-Cindy message is only effective with die-hard NeoCon....
...goose-steppers who have swallowed the NeoCon agenda of lies, hook, line, and sinker.

6. Nonsense
Certain forms of the anti-Cindy Method are playing to the base, of course. But if you don't know what Ms. Sheehan is saying, and someone tells you she's saying soldiers died in vain, it could affect you.

The truth is anybody who takes time to study Ms. Sheehan could find the truth, but many people won't.

4. It goes along with this argument also.
My son died and I feel devastatingly sad.
He had to die for a good reason, otherwise it would be even more horrible.
Therefor he died for a good reason.

9. And what is disgusting about this argument...
is that there are craven opportunists who use it to promote their beliefs at the expense of the grieving family or friends.

Personally, I would never stand up and criticize a family or friend of an injured or lost service member by saying, "it's a disgrace you are using your loved one to support the Bush administration" so I can't see how others could do the same to people like Sheehan.

2. At least Cindy's made these people feel they have to defend themselves...
Iraq is no longer a "done deal."

8. If your child is still alive.
and I do hope this woman's child comes home....you have no right to criticize anything Cindy has done or is doing. Game. Set. Match.
