How long until the right claims Katrina HELPED the economy?
Of course, they're not going to mention the rising energy prices, but when will they claim that all these people who have to replace belongings as well as cars and homes are an absolute BOON to the economy ("cuz people are A'SPENDING!")?

4. A building boom!
Employment numbers in affected areas will (eventually) skyrocket, which they'll point to as the economy making a spectacular comeback.

Never mind that they'll all be temp jobs. It's the appearance of recovery that they care about, not real long-term economic recovery.

5. It will
tens of billions of dollars will be spent repairing and replacing stuff.

It may all be offset by the price of fuel, since refineries and pipelines will be out of commission for a while.

but I understand your point.

Hundreds have died that we dont' know about yet, and the suffering will be enormous

6. Most of that cash will be sucked out of the insurance market.
And that sort of insurance blow can cause a crash, like it did in 1987 when storms in Britain caused a stock market plunge.

7. Pat Robertson will claim
God destroyed all of these places because of all the Den's of Sin (booze, gambling and sex). Falwell will shake his finger at Americans and say YOU MADE THIS HAPPEN!
