Clark? Why not Lieberman?
Joe Lieberman gets his ass kicked here at DU on a regular basis. He is alleged to be a DINO of the worst sort.

Now comes Wes (I'm a Democrat this week) Clark who is portrayed as the great hope for the Democratic Party.

The fact is that Lieberman is and has been for many years a Democrat, has never admitted to voting for a rethug President, has never been quoted as supporting Wolfowitz, Pearle, et all, and frankly has the credentials to actually call himself a Democrat.

Of course, he can't lay claim to being the formerSUPREMEaliiedcommanderofNATO....But hey, Joe likes the miliyary, is a hawk, and would probably agree with Wes that putting NATO troops into the West Bank is a great idea.

Clark has nothing except for some sound bites, and a newly found affinity for the Democratic Party. He hasn't even registered as a Democrat, for crissakes.

So the question must be...why not Joe?

If the Democrats are desperate enough to think that Clark is the answer, why not support a candidate who actually has a lengthy (and visible) track record?

Or do we just really like the double standard here?

1. Lieberman is prowar
Even more so than Bush, which means he is behind the ball. I am not for Clark, but atleast Clark admits the war was actually wrong.

5. I am pro-war........just not this one
Edited on Wed Oct-01-03 07:54 PM by Classical_Liberal
It was dumb and most of the public thinks it was dumb. More will think it is dumb by the time election day comes. Lieberman's unpopular position will make him unpopular. Just because a person thinks that war is appropriate when justified, doesn't mean people think it is appropriate even when unjustified. It is like saying a mugger is the same as someone who beats up their mugger in self defense.

8. I beg to differ
Clark WAS very pro-war! Yes, even the Iraq war. It is only AFTER the war, all of its negative consequences, and that he is running for President, that he has "come out against it."

Christ, we know mainstream will never know the truth (which is good for Wesley War Hawk Clark) but even DUers don't know this bit of information.

I'd vote for Lieberman before I would Clark. And if you knew me, you'd see that that is REALLY saying something.

12. which still would make him better than Lieberman
presuming it is true. Lieberman sees the consequences and still advocates the stupid war.

6. that hasn't been clear at all
I could post six or seven contradicatory sounding quotes about Iraq.

I don't know what Clark is about but the way he slides in and out of different postitions makes me extremely nervous.

Edited on Wed Oct-01-03 07:51 PM by roughsatori
when compared to the "fans" of Clark who don't seem bothered even
now that we know Clark is still a Registered Independent. I actually think that is so outrageous that I can't believe it is true. It betrays incompetence for Clark to still be a registered Independent.

If a DINO is a Democrat in Name Only. Then Clark would be a NEADINO:

"Not even a Democrat in name only." It is bizarre.

I think a DINO is better then a NEADINO

4. not desperate here
I'm still relatively happy with Dean, and I have a list of eight behind him (yes, Joe is the one left behind) for whom I'm still willing to vote in November 2004. Beyond that lurk the third parties, those of the evil and glowing eyes.

I'm not wild about Clark, but if you want to know what sets him apart from Lieberman for me, ask Joe about school vouchers.

10. Sobs, I can't wait for the new rules to be voted on... DAMNIT!
Was Lieberman in Vietnam? Did he go to West Point? Finish first in his class? Become a Rhodes Scholar? Get shot four times? Become Supreme Allied Commader of Nato? Is Lieberman pro labor?

No on all. I think you need to take a deep breath, start looking a little harder at what wesley clark has been saying, and then make a new decision on how you feel.

Go to www.talkingpointsmemo.com and scroll down to the Clark interview.

17. None of that means shit.
Has Wes been elected to anything? Has he governed? Has he gone into the Deep South in the sixties and ridden with the Freedom riders?

I couldn't care less about his war hero shit. It doesn't qualify him for anything. Lots of people got shot in Nam. Some even got killed. Was Wes against THAT war?

18. Joe is the Likud Candidate
Even asking Sharon to pretend to accept the "Road Map" was too much "pressure", according to Lieberman.

He STILL thinks the Iraq war is a "just war", even after all the lies have been exposed.

I am afraid that Lieberman accepts the PNAC agenda whole-heartedly, since it calls for the USA and Israel to conquer the entire middle east.

Everything revolves around Howard Dean and his revolutionary candidacy, you see. As long as Dean is beaten, no one cares what happens in the general election.

26. Joe's MY Senator and you can HAVE him !
While Clark may have been a Republican, he's a convert to OUR side.
Joe used to be a Liberal Democrat (years ago) but NOW, he's a convert to THEIR side.

The GOP in Conn like him so much they talk of cross endorsing him when he's up for re-election and then put up token opposition just for show.
