Report: Iraq weapons may have been a bluff
By Walter Pincus and Dana Priest
WASHINGTON POST

WASHINGTON - With no chemical or biological weapons yet found in Iraq, the U.S. official in charge of the search for Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction is pursuing the possibility that the Iraqi leader was bluffing, pretending he had distributed them to his most loyal commanders to deter the United States from invading.

Such a possibility is one element in the interim report that David Kay, who heads the 1,200-person, CIA-led team in Iraq, will describe before the House and Senate intelligence committees on Thursday, according to people familiar with his planned testimony.

Following months of frustrated searches by hundreds of U.S. and British investigators for Saddam's weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, some have turned up in Kuwait, according to Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Siyassah.

The pro-government daily reports Kuwaiti security forces foiled an attempted smuggling of $60 million worth of chemical weapons and biological warheads from Iraq to an unnamed European country.

Citing an unnamed security source, Al-Siyassah said the smugglers had been under surveillance since they arrived in Kuwait and were arrested "in due time."

No details about the suspects, possible accomplices, where the weapons came from in Iraq and how they were acquired were disclosed.

3. With the Wilson affair,
I'm starting to wonder if its all going to hit the fan at the same time.

Who got "those 16 words" in the SOTU?

Who leaked to Novak?

Those two people could be the same person, and once we get into that, are we going to get into the big stuff?

5. Do all roads lead to the Office of the VP?
Methinks so. Cheney was really pushing the nuclear threat last summer. Cheney and Libby were moonlighting at CIA Headquarters to "help." Cheney was in charge of foreign policy, or so it seems. And now there are allegations that the leak came from his office. Let's hook up Scooter Libby to a polygraph.

6. Today on Bloomberg news, sorry no link,I read this at my office, Blair
said we will find WMD's. No ifs, and, or buts..he very matter of factly said they will be found.

On another thread today, there was a discussion in regards to Poppy's meeting in Saudi Arabia recently. Perhaps the Saudis have been holding wmd's for us which will show up in Iraq.

Could this theory if true then connect to the outing of a CIA operative and her contacts whose speciality was wmd's.

Anything in this administration is feasible.

I also read that Chimpy is going to Britain soon(date?) Could the WMD's be found while he is there with the two world savious together?

I can't believe that Rove and the BFEE don't have something big up their sleeves to head fake the apathetic American public.

7. Hmmmm! do you think the "unnamed Europeon country" could be
France or Germany? Not buying the story, Kuwaitis are Bush Co minions. The supposed assassination attempt on Papa Bush in 93 is widely disputed. I don't believe the Iraqis would be foolish enough to take chems or bios through Kuwait. Syria, maybe, Kuwait, no way! Probably will end up being milk or something, like they found in an Iraqi warehouse that surveillance photos analysts were sure were chems.
