If many people are 1 paycheck away from disaster
what about the people displaced from Katrina? Are their jobs gone because the companies they work for are under water? What happens in these situations?

1. How long can they afford hotels?
Give it a week and we'll have homeless refugees spread all over the south.

2. I'm sure a lot of them are
It's just an awful situation. We need to donate to the Red Cross and have them come in and feed and house these people.

4. The compassionate conservatives in Congress will rush to help them
You're right about the destitute homeless. In the mean spirited way they are gutting medicare rolls and punishing the poor already, they will ignore these people.

The human toll in the displaced will be very high.

5. Well these are very "red" states so it is likely that government help will
be very significant. I say good because that is the purpose of government, to maintain the Health and Welfare of the nation.

7. I agree that "promoting the general welfare" fits that in my mind as well!
A lot of the cons are in the recovery/rebuilding business.

8. I doubt it. Even before this "red" states had higher levels of poverty
and welfare...that's what makes those Bush votes infuriating. They won't give a damn. It will fall to the many charities...The Red Cross...Civil Air Patrol..Salvation Army. These people mean NOTHING to this administration. Remember? They built those government houses too strong, as was so succinctly put by a Freeper. :(
