1. Oh that's just great
Now when hungry people are rioting they can just shoot them down.

:sarcasm:

2. This disaster is like 1906 SF Earthquake
Sometimes that's the only way to get things under control. Truly sad...

5. And in some cases, the people have no other way to get food.
I just saw a photograph with the caption:

A young man walks through chest deep flood water after looting a grocery store in New Orleans on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005.

The water is almost up to his armpits. Was he supposed to shop? Was that possible? There's no drinking water. For food and water (liquid of any kind) people need to take what is in the grocery store. There is no other option. Shooting someone like the person in this picture would be criminal.

Try picture #3 or #4 at this URL. I'm having a lot of trouble loading pictures there.

I'm also having a lot of trouble finding out what is going on in New Orleans. The mayor announced a 2 block long breach in the levee, but the television and radio news haven't indicated this is very serious.

3. flame me if you want, but i would have supported martial law on sunday
if it meant the federal government would have sent enough troops and out of state gaurdsmen to go door to door and pull people out of their homes by force if necessary and have enough buses (school, city, charter) trucks (army, semis, delivery), choppers (coast gaurd and military transport) and even freight trains to get everyone out of the city.

7. But they didn't.
Now the people in New Orleans need to find food and water, especially water.

6. As it should be
Any disaster area is usually put on Martial Law initially. Especially when the local authority is in shambles.
