Interstate commerce will grind to a halt if gas prices are not fixed

If *² was a decent human, he would issue an executive order that no gasoline can be sold for more than $2.00, until further notice.. The oilypal oil companies can afford to take a hit in their gouged profits...for the good of the country,. It;s the patriotic thing to do (cue flags waving)...

He should also decree (he likes doin' that stuff) that truckers can have what they need for that price, but everyone else can only get the $2 gas if they drive a hybrid, a mid-sized or smaller or a car-pool company vehicle..

The bigguns' could buy gas too but at $4 a gallon..

We need to conserve and we need to do it now.. people will need to prop up the economy and they cannot do it if they can barely afford to get to and from work..

That would stick it to the speculators who are really behind the upsurge in price. Maybe they can use it for "petro-slurpees".

Moving EVERYTHING by truck rather than train is rather stupid, anyway; fifty years' lobbying by oil and automobile companies have seriously fucked up this country's transit infrastructure. If it takes higher gasoline prices to start fixing things, I say "good". And even at $3-4/gallon, we're STILL paying less for gasoline than most of the rest of the world.

6. the rail infrastructure was there before WWII

There are stories about trains in the US being faster in 1938 than they are today, though this is certainly not due to faster rail vehicles.
