Rawstory: Killed soldier questioned 'fucktarded' war plan
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 12:38 PM by Autonomy
"Before he died when his truck overturned during combat in Baghdad, Sgt. Thomas Strickland, 27, posted an entry on his weblog sharing his anger about the situation in Iraq," in which he questioned the United States' 'fucktarded' Iraq war plan, Rogers Cadenhead reports on his site, DrudgeRetort.com."

<snip>

"What the fuck has my chain of command been doing? We were winning somewhat when I left. And now we're being pinned down in our own fucking homes? Insurgents are pushing locals out of their homes and taking over my area at will? What kind of fucktarded plan have we been half-assedly executing? Obviously the kind that neglects sound contact with locals. Obviously the kind that gives further distance to unbridged gaps between soldiers and locals. Obviously the kind that has shown enough weakness when confronted by the insugency that it has been encouraged to grow.

Back home (the USA kind) I have no home, no job, and my commander in chief is on vacation (he's about 20 days behind Ronald Reagan right now in the race to become the most vacationing president ever. Hey W! we all got our fingers crossed! Here's to you and two more years of presidency...er vacationing!). Luckily pretty much everything that is important to me can fit into the back of a truck. Luckily I just paid off one of those."

1. "Everything that is important"
He forgot the value of his own life. My heart goes out to his loved ones. This is all so sad and senseless.

8. I think it was implied...
He stated that he had no home, so the implication was that he could have lived out of the truck.

"Drudgeretort", another good mind destroyed by the incompetent plans of BushCo.

14. He gave up the lease on his apartment when he was deployed

His parents sold the house where he was keeping his stuff. See http://www.livejournal.com/users/rev_wayfarer/

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Strickland was a project manager at Son Electrical Contractors in Winston. He had been in the Guard for six years. He graduated from Alexander High School, where he was president of the drafting club, and later earned a bachelor's degree in English from University of West Georgia.

Greg Stanford, a minister at Dorsett Shoals Baptist Church, remembered Strickland as a well-rounded, likable man who loved to meet people and enjoyed mission work - including trips to Bosnia and the Philippines.

I don't know if this means he quit his job or was let go.

It's just so sad that I'm at a loss for words.

3. Just horrible
You beat your head against the wall, your chain does not listen to you, it is a disastrous situation for those on the ground at those FOB's...so much for the Iraqis taking the lead on security.

That was very painful to read.

17. It would be handy
I've had it for a while but didn't think I'd ever really have the need to use it b/c it seemed a little extreme. Sadly, not anymore.
