Why won't they use helicopters to evacuate...
Well don't helicopters use TONS of gas?

I mean if they use lots gas then there will be a shortage. If there is a shortage then they will have to do something about it.

GAS panic will hit the market and our economy will tank faster than imagined.

2. I don't think
that the amount of gas a few scores of helos would use would make a big dent in the gasoline supply...

There's aviation fuel at New Orleans Airport, Belle Chase NAS...
Lakefront Airport (although it is under some water)

There's fuel for aviation. I wonder where the helicopters are.

6. I'm more worried about the location of National Guard copters
that were based right on the lakefront.

Are they in Iraq?

National Guard site isn't even working.

7. Canoes, kayaks, rafts, even strung-together pontoons. . .
are far better than waiting for a helicopter. . .put the flood waters to good use by using SIMPLE floating solutions.

Dull minds with no imagination at work I fear.

10. There are gas leaks and downed power lines
in the water. Floating on a make-shift raft probably isn't the best answer.

12. Sturdy boats would be useful.
Handled by experienced boatmen. There are plenty of those in the region--but the whole area has suffered from the storm.

I'd imagine more will show up.

11. Oil companies have FLEETS of helicopters ...
unfortunately, they are all reserved to take oil company executives to their Labor Day weekend vacations. The oil companies have looted the state of its mineral resources while refusing to pay royalties on what they pump from the gulf - and now they refuse to put those looted resources to use to save people.
