Or is it shut down?
Has anybody seen estimates of how long barge traffic will be shut?
This is an absolutely essential waterway.

1. I've been wondering the same thing. |

No doubt the humongous rainfall upstream will keep things shut down for a while due to continuing flooding.
So much commerce goes up the Mississippi-Ohio-Missouri that I can't imagine there won't be an economic hit of equally humongous proportion.

2. Ports are closed in the lower Mississippi. |

I would imagine the river itself is navigable, but probably a bit higher water levels.

They are preventing traffic to keep the wakes from the levees. I have done some searching and cannot find any order that the river is closed to navigation.
