Margaret Orr back on the air, she's driving in her car, not safe to be in NO because of rising H20. SHe's in Baton Rouge. She drove out of downtown NO from the Hilton as water was rising. She's a NO native. She says "it's hard to believe it can be true but it is."

what a bad idea it was to use the Superdome for a shelter. They had time on Sunday to relocate all those people to outside of the evacuation area and they didn't. What is happening now could have been avoided and it's not like Homeland Security and FEMA didn't have years to plan for this.

New coverage from another news team with new footage and anchors. Horrible story of people on rooftops pleading for boats full of people to rescue them but the boats had no room.

The Superdome is surrounded by water. The water is full of gas, chemicals, rafts of debris and red ants and dangerous animals.

Woman reporter (Margaret Orr, Meteorologist) said boats were coming into NO to rescue people.
Water in lake is still higher than on other side of levee. Unless they fix levee soon then the lake and the flood waters will be the same level and NO will be destroyed.

Sounds like the bulk of the people inside will be there for at least one more night, though. I can't imagine they could do massive evacuation in the dark and they're not going to be able to manage portable lighting on an enormous scale.

47. His niece in KY called us this AM-they are OK. That's all we know.

They did not plan to evacuate Lacombe as of the morning of the hurricane and didn't as far as we know. Maybe they did. All we know is they are OK. No mention of the pets. Mr. CottonBear's cousin's son got in touch with a ham radio operator who radioed someone who called Judi in Lexington, KY who called us in Athens, GA.
We know nothinbg about their homes or the level of flooding. All I know is that everyone came out of their houses after the storm passed to look at damage and within an hour a HUGE storm surge rose up to 20' within minutes.

Mr. CottonBear grew up in NO and Slidell. His childhood homes are most likely under water at this time. There is very little news from Lacombe. They had a brief report on the other news channel.

SOME of the people were being moved to the Convention Center, and some to the Hyatt and other hotels. They ARE still bringing in rescued people to Super Dome. More a repositioning of the mass of people, I think.

the lake isn't that high. this sounds bogus, and is the first i've heard of it. i'll grant i'm up in pineville, and probably don't have much more info than an out-of-stater. but i'd still bet on it. if they're taking people out, it's to find them better conditions and not because they're in danger of drowning.

The 24 mile causeway across the lake goes to St. Tammany Parrish which is devastated, isolated and under curfew. No one can go over the 24 mile bridge except emergency personnel. The I-10 bridges over the Rigolets have been destroyed. Hwy 90 from NO east to MS is GONE. Destroyed.
