Simply amazing. Watching them do their work is inspiring.

It's such a shame Bush has a lot of our National Guard in Iraq.. Makes me livid to think about it.

pentagon and base closure comm wants to close some in the US, (as I remember some in Alaska.)

7. As a former (sorta) Coastie, I can only say they're terrific.

While I was merely a cadet (at the USCGA), my appreciation and respect for the Coast Guard, their training, and their dedication to humanitarian missions, is undiminished over the years. I'm a bit bothered that so much of their attention has been diverted to drug interdiction, but their search and rescue abilities are unparalleled. It attitude is self-evident when you visit any Coast Guard vessel or installation - the people have a far higher and healthier self-esteem, and show positive relationships among themselves that you don't find in any other service.
