I was just lurking and they tried to prove Americans living below the poverty line drive fancy cars, have big mcmansions---have all kinds of expensive shit and play us all for suckers.

Another 15% or so are working and receiving govt assistance.

Only about 11% of families with young children living below poverty subsist on govt assistance only.

It's possible that this woman was using food stamps that weren't actually issued to her.

I'd like to suggest the hypothesis that she was using food stamps that were legally issued to somebody else, and that person then sold/traded them to another somebody else who would accept food stamps as barter.

$50 in food stamps is worth, what, say $20 cash?

I don't know, but ask somebody who is itchin' for another rock.

Like every situation, I'm sure there are multiple things contributing to it. The situation of those in poverty here, there, everwhere.

But, still....I hear about how many of the destitute in Africa follow church teachings and thus don't use birth control or protection....hence the AIDS crisis.

Same nonsense being pushed here...abstinence only....with pitiful results. These friggin RW nuts think sex isn't a natural human act. Oh, silly me....for most of the RW, fundamentalist, conservative male nutjobs, perhaps sex with their spouse ISN'T natural, instead they're having sex with young boys and girls or extramarital affairs. Or they're so friggin repressed that they become the infamous serial killers....vast majority are white, Christian, conservative males, right? But, hey, at least they aren't procreating!!!!

And my sister works for Social Services - knows the programs as well as anyone. The criteria for aid are very rigid these days.
